We booked two deluxe rooms with ensuite for two nights. The restaurant was good. Can't complain about the service. People working at the restaurant or at the counter were nice. But the accommodation? Both the rooms were probably the worst accommodation I have ever stayed into, in my life, period. Where to start? The ceiling plaster is falling off. The ensuite is the worst ever. No bigger than a cupboard, the door knobs don't work, the bathroom looks disgusting and the toilet can't flush toilet papers down. The shower is so repulsive that no one wanted to take the shower. We tried to hold onto peeing in that disgusting toilet as long as we could, yet I feel like I had an abscess. And this holds true for both the rooms. The rooms were advertised to have microwaves. But to our surprise microwaves were absent from both the rooms. And when I complained about missing amenities, both the microwaves popped up in minutes. That does not negate the fact the lights were missing from holders as well. Did I mention the dead spider on my bed greeting us when we arrived? Granted there can be bugs in the room, but we arrived soon after the rooms were refreshed, and found dead bugs on a made bed. And yes, ceiling fitted with cobwebs in both the rooms. We could not wait to end our trip and return to home, just because the living conditions were so horrible. I don't blame the reception, nice people in the restaurant. But the hotel should stop providing family accommodation and stick to being a backpackers hotel or something. Because the rooms are not suitable or healthy or even safe for families. And they are not the cheapest. At this stage the hotel is a deception, and I even considered sleeping in the car. Sorry for being so harsh, but a five star trip to Wilson's prom was let down, as I constantly wondered, what went wrong? What did I miss when I was booking? Why didn't I book anywhere else, or even an Airbnb? I probably missed the fact that everyone in the reviews section is reviewing the restaurant and the accommodation. It's a learning that I should read better...
Read moreThe staff were lovely, and the service they provided was friendly and efficient. I don’t have a bad word to say about their staff.
The room however, was not lovely. I used Booking.com and the photos looked lovely on the main page, but you need to look closely at the photos for the specific room you are booking, as some of them are in the hotel, and some are in the motel at the back. We unwittingly booked a room for the motel out the back of the hotel, and there is a marked difference in quality between the hotel and the motel.
The carpet was old and stained, the room was very dated, in need of a fresh lick of paint, and a replacement counter in the bathroom. The bathroom door also scrapes loudly on the bathroom tiles when you open or close it, which means bathroom trips in the middle of the night wake up your partner. There was also a floodlight right next to our room window which illuminates the beer garden; that stayed on most of the night, which made it hard to sleep.
Obviously not within the total control of the venue, but the patrons leaving the pub at the end of the night are not particularly considerate. In particular, the one punter that set off their novelty car horn four times before revving their engine as they drove off, at around 11:30pm on a Friday night.
Finally, at $280 for two people for two nights, it was more expensive than most Melbourne hotel rooms.
If I were to give them another chance and book again, I’d book the ‘Budget Double Room’, which is significantly cheaper than the ‘Queen Room’, yet of a noticeably...
Read moreWe know this hotel can really deliver & we also know you have your off days which it is unfair to be judged by. We must have had a below par day so read on for why we felt this but form your opinions by reading multiple reviews. We were greeted & provided with a menu & our attention directed to the specials. The pulled lamb looked good. Meanwhile my wife was drawn to the southern fried chicken although wanted only a single piece of chicken. Time to order. When I asked for the pulled lamb there was some concern & after checking was told none of the specials were available. This was at 6:15pm so I don't think there had been a run. Oh well. Beef cheeks for me. Southern fried chicken. Could I have that with a single piece of chicken. Some fairly involved interactions on the POS & yes, that could be accommodated. Only when I returned to the table did I discover evidently 2 pieces of chicken cost the same as a single piece. In case you were wondering, only 1 piece got served. At this point we got to eating & we couldn't fault our mains. On the dessert menu was toffee apple crumble. Sounds delicious doesn't it? Two serves thanks. What arrived was a bowl of cubed stewed apple covered with dried rolled oats and a scoop of ice cream. Maybe chef had to call in sick and staff struggled to serve dinner. That's why I share this with you. If you have a less than stellar dining experience don't assume that it is the norm. There are staff working to keep you fed. On the other hand if I find the same outcome a couple more times maybe I won't be as...
