Merlot Restaurant is the on-site restaurant located at the @lancemorehotels in Milawa. It is named after the wine grapes grown in the vineyard it overlooks. Executive Chef Aaron Jose leads the kitchen, with 20 years experience at award winning, hatted restaurants. 🍷
The menu celebrates a paddock-to-plate ethos, and it does it so well. Beginning with some beautiful complimentary fresh bread, you can opt for a 2 ($85) or 3 ($98) course option (no a la carte).🍴
Unsure if I can pick a favourite, we essentially tried every dish and it was near faultless. The Steak and Lamb Backstrap, both had a perfect crust and cook on them. The Chicken was beautifully moist and full of flavour. Although the Duck Fat Potatoes were nice, we also ordered the Rustic Chips (not listed on the menu) which were even more amazing. 🤤
My least favourite dishes were the Tortellini which could’ve done with a better sauce, and the Fish which was just OK. Breakfast didn’t wow us on flavour but still your best option in town. The Breakfast Muffin was great and they do a good chai latte. ☕️
Overall a little pricey but top quality. We ate here for all meals on both days of our stay and don’t regret it. If it’s a nice day, sit outside for a little...
Read moreWe booked dinner as part of our stay at the Lancemore hotel. The breakfast food and service was impeccable but the same cannot be said for the dinner sitting. 1.5hrs after sitting at the table we still hadn’t received our food so we took our leave. During that time no one offered any update on the food until we stopped a member of staff to ask. The waiting staff didn’t even offer a water top up during our wait. Issues happen in kitchens and delays happen but waiting staff should be better equipped to deal with such an incident. When we offered to pay for the drinks we had they kindly offered them free of charge but only after dragging the chef out to explain where the food was. NOT what was needed; the waiting staff should be having those difficult conversations behind closed doors and not in front of the customers. Such a shame as it tainted our stay at the hotel. We will...
Read moreWe were staying at the hotel and booked dinner for our first night. We had the three courses, entrees were good (prawn and quail) my husbands main was good (steak), my main was underwhelming lamb backstrap with pilaf, it needed something to brighten up the dish, I requested preserved lemon yogurt that my husband has with his entree and it was a large improvement. The desserts weren't great, both too dry (pavlova and cheesecake) the pavlova should be listed as a meringue as that is the correct term for what they are serving. Wine was delicious, and our waiter Rachel was friendly.
We also ate breakfast here both days, breakfast is fine. You can choose a hot dish and self serve fruit, pastries, muslie etc. They should refil the self serve throughout breakfast as it was quite sparse on our...
