Old Empire Hotel, Wahgunyah — Restaurant in Victoria

We had a wonderful evening at the Old Empire Hotel. It was fully booked when we originally called, but we were told to try our luck turning up. When we did this, although no tables at the time, we stayed for a few drinks in the bar while we waited. Soon enough, a table opened up and we were welcomed to sit down and enjoy a meal. My goodness we were not disappointed - the best Parma I’ve ever eaten - I highly recommend the Taco Parmy but all of our meals were delicious!!

I was staying at the free camping in the Wahgunya reserve and thought I would check out this pub - what a great, local spot - had the Billson’s Ginger Beer (yes, it’s alcoholic and a local brew) and then stayed on for a great pub dinner. Fresh produce, well prepared and friendly staff - the owner/chef came out to check in on my meal - what pub does that? … a passionfruit Billson’s vodka for dessert and a walk down the hill to bed. Seriously a great place, pub and the lovely Murray River to fall...

Beautiful steak, ordered with onion rings, calamari , mushroom sauce + lovely selection of fresh veg yummo! So full. Was very busy Easter Monday and meal and service was perfect. Fantastic selection of local wines to match, had the Durif as recommended by owner. Also Guinness on tap a big ++! Nice relaxed atmosphere, sat inside as was a cold evening, outdoor area is nice too though, covered and heated. Will be back for the...
