Waitress,"How was your meal" Me, "Average to say the least." Upon explaining a few things, waitress retorts," I can't really tell if you like it or not." And so sums up an evening at Pier 70. So much potential, so little output. Pretty in picture but that's where it ends. A redeeming black and confit garlic bread gives them a bit of cred. My boy had "pasta and sauce" as was 'explained' to us. As to what sauce, we didn't know until it arrived with a somewhat interesting cold tomato sauce with packaged cheese on top.
The Bouillabaisse served in a flat plate because it makes for good presentation filled with cold insipid broth, overcooked half but undercooked gummy shark and a variety of bivalve molluscs at various stages of opening. Topped with some interesting pickled radish which wasn't on the menu. Luckily, my wife was spotted it and removed it as she is allergic to vinegar. She was so looking forward to it and was sadly disappointed.
The eye fillet was an interesting yet totally pathetic peice of bovine. Never have I seen what is supposed to be a beautiful cut tortured so much. No flavour or seasoning you can fix, but when you bite it and it tastes like boiled meat then that's another story. The side were no better. The potato and mushrooms just a mishmash of stewed veg with again no flavour.
I did not ask for nor did I want any discounts. I ordered the meal and ate the meal butPeir 70 gets another half star due to the manager acknowledging that it was poor and rectifying it but really, there should be some quality control or the apprentice should not be left...
Read moreArrived for our booking at 8pm for a special meal for my wifes birthday only to be told there had been a mistake and that the kitchen closed at 8pm. After some discussion they said we could come in. This left us feeling like we were keeping everyone from going home. We had cocktails to start which were nice considering the girl who made them informed us she was only just learning to make them. My wife was looking forward to a starter of trout which she had seen earlier on their website menu. She was subsequently informed by the waitress that they don't do the trout but were hoping to in the future..My wife opted for the ribs which were very enjoyable. I had the scallops which were very small and almost cold. For the main I opted for seafood linguine in a white wine and garlic sauce which was very disappointing. It was tasteless and again almost cold. My wife had a steak which was cooked perfectly but the coleslaw wasn't nice. All in all a very disappointing experience. The food was very disappointing and over priced. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and we won't be back.
In response to your reply there was no lock down at that time hence why we had travelled from Melbourne. This was actually 8 months ago so thanks for your quick reply. Also we did complain to the waitress at the time but it made no difference. You have had 8 months to invite us back so don't talk to me about being nice or giving you chance . Take responsibility for your own mistakes and don't try and put it back on a customer who spent over $200 and had a lousy...
Read moreI have now had two negative experiences at Pier 70. Today we boated over to Paynesville with friends. We were a party of six and requested a table outside and was told abruptly that no that’s not possible. He offered a table inside in the back corner. We thanked him and said we’ll think on it. After a short period we returned and spoke to a staff member and explained that we understood there are no tables for 6 available on the deck but can we have 2 tables of 3? He checked with the original guy, I assume the manager, and he again abruptly said “no”. We asked if the unoccupied tables outside were booked. A different staff member conveyed this request to the manager and he responded to her that we could have the tables outside. My expression gave him the nerve to directly say to me “please don’t eye roll me or you are not welcomed here”. I was a bit gob smacked by this comment and scuttled off to our table. We were not rude we simply put out a solution that worked for us to be able to enjoy a nice lunch on the deck in the sunshine. The expression on my face was more of an involuntary response to his lack of engaging with us in a friendly manner and listening to our request his staff relayed to him.. We are locals and the option to boat over from Metung is something we could do regularly. I wonder if there will be a third time lucky! Shame because it’s a lovely outlook, the food and those serving us...
