Hubby and I had the banquet I took the first bite of the rice paper roll or whatever it was as it was square and for the very first time in my life had no choice but to spit it into my napkin. It was absolutely rancid, the foul taste was overwhelming. Hubby wasn't even game to taste his. I told the lady who came to remove the plates and she apologised then came back about 20 minutes later with another 2. I just took mine apart but it too had a strange smell but only slight so we weren't game to eat them. I was told that the chef did smell the first one and said it was definitely off. We had the honey chicken which is my favourite but although the chicken was crispy and delicious we didn't get the usual cashew nuts and the crunchy rice noodles were pretty much non existant. However hubby's king prawns were awesome. Then came the banana fritters with ice scream another disappointment which may I add is usually a favourite were tasteless the batter was crispy as for the caramel, well it wasn't the usual thick and rich it was a very watered down version. Such a disaster for an evening that we were looking forward too. As for the service it was OK but we were given nice hot plates after the horrible off tasting beginning but had to wait a further 45 minutes for our main. Not to mention arriving at 5-15 and leaving around 7-45. As I went to pay I was asked how was our meal I replied that had I of eaten the second dish I would of definitely ended up in hospital.Another staff member then said very quietly that we were the ones that had the bad meal so do a deduction for them. We received a deduction of $7 off which was obviously the cost of the entree that I had. What happened to common courtesy the manager didn't even come and apologise or try to give an explanation as to why the whatever it was that I had was so rotten. To be honest we had no idea what it was. I have given this place great reviews before so I was very disappointed that in this day and age one can be served a dish that was so rank. We most certainly will not be...
Read moreMy partner and I dinned at the Rainbow Palace Chinese Restaurant last night on our way back to Melbourne after a long weekend away camping. We ordered three dishes; chicken soup, fried rice and schezwan chicken, which were all delicious! Whilst we were finishing off the schezwan chicken my partner noticed a large piece of white plastic mixed in with the dish, obviously not what you would hope to find so we quickly told the waitress. She took the plastic to the kitchen to show the chef but no one came to apologise or check on us after, which was a little concerning. My partner was turned off his food at this point and as the waitress came to take away our plates he told them that he wasn't going to pay for that particular dish. Instantly we had the chef come over to our table and tell us that he was going to call the police if we didn't pay for the dish... not only that but he wanted US to call the police on ourselves! We talked to him about the situation and that we generally enjoyed the food up until the moment of finding plastic in it but he didn't seemed concerned or bothered about the plastic or apologising to us at all. After a while of back and forth and obviously not leaving without paying he agreed to charge us for only 50% of the chicken dish, which we were fine with. We know this can sometimes happen at restaurants, we know that due to covid everyone has been having difficulties and we aren't the type of people to leave without paying for anything as we generally enjoyed the food but If someone had apologised we wouldn't have even had this conversation but the fact that they wouldn't take any responsibility at all and their first call to action was to call the police on us was absolutely ridiculous! For that reason I am leaving a two star review and would sadly not go back to...
Read moreIt's probably my own fatal mistake for wanting decent chinese on Mothers Day. I thought I got in early by ordering takeaway at 6 pm. I was told that there would be quite a wait and that my food should be ready at 730. Considering I was travelling 40+kms for this, I thought that's cool, gives me time to get the kids organised, and head up to Korumburra. I arrive at the restaurant at 745pm to an overcrowded waiting room. After standing there for a further 20 minutes before being acknowledged by any staff someone finally greetedme and told me that my food had not been started yet and it is up to me if I would to continue to wait or cancel my order. I looked at the waiter and said it was after 8 o'clock. I have 3 kids in the car who haven't been fed, and I have just driven over 40kms for tea. I will wait. I finally received my order at 915pm and ended up with 2 kids going to bed hungry because they fell asleep waiting for food. When I received the bill, i got a huge bill shock at $176.50. Even the waiter looked at it and double-checked the bill. The fact that there was no decency to apologise for the wait and no offer for even some prawn crackers for inconvenience, which most other restaurants offer free with all orders regardless. It has really ruined my opinion of a restaurant that I once rated so highly. When we got gome - the food was hot, but average, I couldnt really rate it as anything else. The bill in my eyes should not have been that expensive, and I believe that I have been charged dine in prices, and unfortunately, we will not be returning to Rainbow Palace. Customer service needs improvement and need to learn when to turn the phones off to avoid...
