The Blazing Stump Hotel — Restaurant in Victoria

13 March 2025 I don't know what possessed us to have lunch here again. We paid $44.10 for lunch for two. It was okay, not great, but okay. They still have bar staff that haven't a clue about making cocktails. Didn't know what Kahlua was 🙄 But the worst thing was .. NO DESSERTS anymore!! All they offered us was an icecream freezer loaded up with icecreams you can buy at a corner store. Why are there no dinner rolls with meals anymore? TRULY TACKY & CHEAP & NASTY. Whoever owns/runs the Blazing Stump should be ashamed of themselves. The Blazing Stump lacks the atmosphere it used to have .. it has a cold, money hungry atmosphere. The amount of flies is atrocious and makes it all feel filthy and unhygienic. The lovely personal service has gone. We've learnt our lesson. We, the family and our friends, will not be visiting the Blazing Stump again. Amazing how people can takeover a business and it then implodes. So, so sad 😞

Christmas Day Lunch 2024 .. 2 x $95 .. pressed Turkey roll (3 slices only), no Roast Beef, Chicken Drum Sticks, fatty lamb slices laying in a bain marie in fatty water, no Roast potatoes - just scalloped in white sauce. Corn, peas, beans floating in a bain marie. No salads! Gravy so thick it wouldn't pour off the ladle. Plum puddings being man handled by diners as there were no utensils/not enough. Dirty plates piled next to bread rolls in open baskets. Bar staff unaware of how to make a basic cocktail with no knowledge on how to use the register. Received offer of complimentary Christmas voucher .. why would we return? Thanks .. but .. never in a million years .. miss the Perry family.

Quality of Service? Very Average. We had to go looking for someone to serve us. Quality of Seniors Liver & Bacon was Average .. nothing to really talk about except it was hot. Quality of Chicken Schnitzel meal was very poor. Served on big plate, schnitzel the size of my palm, looked like it had been crumbed a year ago, a luke warm piece of pressed chicken served with cold chips in a wire basket (the few on top were luke warm, the rest were cold). Complained and told they would replace them. We gave up waiting for replacement - ridiculous wait - we'd finished our meal!! Air con in Bistro non existent and made it a very uncomfortable visit. The menus were dirty with smears of sauces/food .. we had to wipe them in some instances so we could read the menu.

THE BIGGEST AND MOST IMPORTANT THING BLAZING STUMP NEED TO ATTEND TO ARE THE AMOUNT OF FLIES!! TRYING TO EAT OUR NOT SO APPETIZING MEALS ALL THE WHILE SWATTING FLIES WAS JUST HORRENDOUS. Trying to squash flies with one hand and eating was ridiculous. Questioned staff who said they'd been through bistro with fly spray .. IT MOST CERTAINLY DIDN'T WORK. We're also not interested in staff complaining about salt and pepper shakers being stolen .. not our problem. Blazing Stump had a feeling of filth and dirt .. it was the worst dining experience we ever encountered. If we could give ZERO stars we most definitely would. Blazing Stump, we gave you another chance and boy did...

Had our very first bad experience there in thirty odd years when our meal order was taken down wrong by the new cashier.

We were then made to pay extra for the mistake (a four dollar EFTPOS transaction lol), spoken to rather rudely by an individual supervising staff member and accused of not placing the right order in the first place.

When the adjusted meal finally arrived it was poorly prepared and un-edible. When the same staff member cleared our table she noticed the adjusted meal had not been consumed and enquired as to why. On informing her that the meal was un-edible due to its preparation we were then aggressively chastised by the said staff member for not returning it if there was something wrong with it, which was odd because we'd already been made uncomfortable and didn't want any more confrontation as the incident had already put a downer on our experience.

Very dissapointed for a 200 dollar outlay TBH.

Don’t waste your time looking at the menu on their website; the staff say it’s 10years old and is totally incorrect. I’ve been going to this restaurant for 30 years and it’s always been good value for money but recently it has gone downhill. Tonight I spent almost $40 for a steak with chips and salad. It was absolutely pathetic! All of it was cold (the middle of the meat was just above freezing). The salad consisted of 3 halves of cherry tomatoes, 1 piece of lettuce, 6 slivers of grated carrot, 3 wafer thin slices of cucumber and 3 rings of onion which was swimming in a tablespoon of mayonnaise. It all fit in 1 fork! That’s not a salad, that’s a glorified garnish! The chips were equally as cold as the meat and salad and lacked any salt or flavour. My wife had a chicken Kiev with vegetables all of which was also cold and dry. My mother had a steak and veg and hers was also cold and she refused to eat more than a few bites, said she would rather eat McDonalds which she hates but at least it...
