The Glenrowan Sweet Co — Restaurant in Victoria

Bakehouse and Café ! Not sure how the Sweet Co got the title. Apologies to all. They get the 2.5 - I'll adjust the Sweet Co to a 5 to make up for my (?) error ! The Bakery: Hard place to review. Maybe a 2.5 but I'll give a 3. The female "Basil Fawlty" who served us almost encouraged us to leave before we started. Why people work on the front counter who clearly don't want to be there is beyond me - maybe we hit a bad day. Pies very average (mince only) and very average sausage rolls. Sweets ok. I didn't have the coffee but my wife said it was nothing to write home about. When compared to the Beechworth Bakery(s) - Bright. Beechworth etc - price wise, food and set-up - it fell far short. (Our friends said the steak sandwich was good)....

I did not expect to find a decent coffee in a small tourist trap town on the highway and would have settled for a basic caffeine delivery mechanism. However I was wonderfully surprised and had an absolutely fantastic espresso. My regular is a double ristretto but the nice shop owner explained to me that Melbourne coffee snobs have invented an entirely stupid thing called a "Magic", which I politely declined. The shop also sells super fresh donuts from the partner business next door adjacent to the big Ned Kelly. I ordered a dozen I didn't need and they were delicious too. Right behind the big Ned, you can find them. A little shop with a great selection of sweets. Icecream, donuts, and a range of sweet treats. We loved the icecream and donuts. Good old fashioned friendly service, the girl who served us even made the strawberry icecream into the shape of a rose for the kids! Looked great. Very highly recommended to visit if you are...
