A Patch of Country — Restaurant in Western Australia

Disappointed. Never been here before and won't ever go there again. Seemed to be popular but the waiting for your order is way too long. 30mins is way too long, even if there is a sign up stating it. We just wanted a coffee each with a piece of cake, that was sitting in the cake display and my wife asked for muesli and yoghurt. We waited for 15mins before getting our coffees and just over 5min to get 1 piece of cake then just under 5min for the muesli. My coffee was Luke warm hence was nearly finished before my cake turned up. Would been nice to have with my coffee. I might add there were 6 staff on at the time. We finished our coffees and cake and muesli in way less time that it took to arrive but were still waiting for 1 more piece of cake to arrive. After waiting a further 5min it seemed obvious that we weren't going to get it, so I went to the counter to ask for it as a takeaway. They had forgotten it. It was still in the microwave getting soggy. Our coffees and cake turned into waste of time and money. Insidently our morning tea cost $42 and I expect better service and eats for that much money. So we won't go...

We went in for afternoon tea Sunday afternoon and noticed that some of the tables had the chairs put up on the table top. I asked at the counter if they were about to close and was told they were open for afternoon teas etc. but not meals. We sat down to enjoy our coffee and cake when the lady in charge started putting up chairs, wiping and sweeping around the other tables. This is offputting not to mention rude. You would not do this to guests in your own home would you. It makes people feel that they are unwelcome and expectected to pay and leave ASAP. If they want to close, then put up the closed sign then clean up., but do not sweep the floor around customers who came in to enjoy a pleasant afternoon...

We have been here only twice. But I'm struck by a few aspects of this place:

Great location. Beautifully decorated Art and gift shop Friendly staff The café hits the sweet spot for me in that it has a great atmosphere, but is not so bustling that you can't hear conversation Menu is surprisingly varied (plenty of choices - but not too many that it becomes overwhelming to have to make a choice) The culinary skills of whoever is making the meals, are fantastic (that may be more than one person). We had literally the BEST bacon and eggs we've had at any café or diner (and we've had many).

Overall, I highly recommend this place. It's nowhere near where we live, but I'll go out of my way...
