I had booked a table for my mum’s birthday, as it was hers and my grandparents favourite places. when we arrived we were greeted and said to follow someone to our table as we followed as fast as we could, by the time we caught up to the girl she was at another table (I’m assuming she got waved down) we waited but the girl just never came back to us, we just assumed the table next to us was ours as it said reserved, we sat down and waited a little bit for someone to come pass and give us some menus, we ordered our food and probably after 40mins of being there a lady with glasses (guessing she is one of the owners) came to our table with a massive speech to tell us off VERY abruptly and simply made us feel ashamed, embarrassed and so upset. She told us that our table was for a table for 6 and not 4 (there was only 4 of us) and now there’s no room for another group that has come in (didn’t ask us to move just wanted to say that I guess) also said it was a restaurant and there is a charge for birthday cakes coming in (this should be an option on the booking I had no clue and just wanted to make my mum a cake) I told her I was sorry and I was the one that booked and I didn’t realise there was a charge, we then had to explain ourselves as to why we sat there and I said we were never seated and just assumed this table was ours, she asked who our server was and said she would have to have a stern talking to her if that’s the case, obviously we didn’t want the poor girl to get told off so we didn’t tell her and she walked away. We honestly wanted to walk out but we had ordered and payed already. We didn’t touch the cake, food was great, servers were very sweet but holy crap that nearly ruined our whole day such ashame it was amazing food and all the servers just seem sort of stressed like they weren’t...
Read morePlease save yourself some time, and look for another establishment to have your meal.
My partner and I had a disappointing time. The lovely woman who served us made sure we got served quickly, and the waitress who brought our meal was apologetic and kind. When we asked for some cutlery, she was a bit scared and panicked- it wasn’t busy either, so there wasn’t much of a rush for her to be in (though our meal did take a whole hour to arrive, and it had been clear it was sitting there waiting to be delivered for a while)
Reading some of the other reviews, I can definitely agree with what they say in terms of meal wait time, miserable staff, and poor quality food for a less then tolerable price.
Working in hospitality myself, I can understand the environment and it’s easy for me to observe certain points- and it was clear to me that the staff were overworked (poor woman that served us was rushing about, making coffees and serving while there are four other girls in the back).
My partner ordered a vanilla milkshake and by the time we received it, it had separated- leaving the syrup at the bottom. It was as if they did the milk, and added the pumps in after that which is not the correct way to make a milkshake in any establishment. The ice for my drink was all melted and was half water when I received it. Pancakes had been cold, and they were heavily dry- I finished my drink before I even got through one of them.
The environment is lovely, and the breeze is pleasant. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the backyard ocean tavern approach and it works well with the beach being right in front of the cafe. Unfortunately I think this is the only good thing about this cafe- aside from the staff! While overworked and stressed, they...
Read moreAlmost a slapstick production of Fawlty Towers proportions. The queue to order was expected for lunchtime but the banter from the host with each and every person ordering was charming yet unnecessary. I wanted to get back to my table to chat with family and friends, I understand my meal will not come quicker but why go to a seaside cafe for the view and but stand in a queue? Several times while waiting, the host berated staff for mistakes openly. I made my order and was asked if I would like the entree first and I said, ''yes thank you.'' Within 6 minutes, my order came. My order , garlic bread, porterhouse with mushroom sauce and a banana milkshake. I asked if it was correct as I ordered garlic sauce on my scotch fillet. The staff member smiled saying yes and took off. It irks me when a table doesn't get their food so it may be eaten together but we ate the garlic bread and chips before after 15 minutes the host came to the table asking why I had my meal, the people round us who ordered before me didn't have theirs yet and neither did the rest of our table. The host apologised and asked how my steak was. I said it's ok, she said I would receive a refund and took off. 10 minutes or so later, everybody had their food and I had learned my steak was dry and stringy and way past medium rare. Just as we were about to leave, all our meals showed up again. The staff member looked at us, turned and left with the meals in her possession. No words were had as I did not wish to engage the host so no refund was received, sadly I will not return to what is a lovely location but not worthy of the...
