My Review in 2021: Today, after our bushwalk in the Wungong Dam region, we visited Brook 508. The walk was treacherous, but our time at the café was most enjoyable. Our first visit to Brook 508 was in December 2018, and we have been frequenting the café ever since. Whenever our bushwalk is in the vicinity, we drop into the café for breakfast. I always order an omelette. Previously the café offered all-day breakfast, but in more recent times, breakfast finishes before noon. Today, we were later than normal and I was hoping that I could still order my favourite dish. Sarah was most accommodating and I was able to enjoy a spinach and tomato omelette. My partner loved the very spicy vegetarian Pad Khe Mao Noodles dish. A typical example of East meets West. Da, the barista made me the perfect cup of coffee, exactly how I like it, piping hot. We both enjoyed our experience at Brook 508, today. My Review in 2018: Perth's best kept secret is in Roleystone at Brook 508 Cafe. The food is excellent and the owners are more than happy to accommodate you, whatever the need. The staff are very friendly and obliging. We visited the cafe for the first time today and were very impressed. The staff member that took our order was friendly, efficient and accommodating.

Had lunch here as a group of 4 people. It was Saturday, and quite crowded, but we were able to find a couple of available tables for ourselves. The restaurant looks cozy inside, but it was a bit too warm because the heaters were turned on inside. Service was a bit slow because there was only one waitress serving customers, and lots of diners waiting to be served. The waiting time was a bit too long because it took more than 40mins for our food to be served. But it was the long Easter weekend, so maybe they were understaffed. Even so, i think they could try to improve in the area of service timing. Another area they should look at is the cleaning of the restaurant - there were a few cobwebs on the chairs where we sat, and we spotted a few dead houseflies too, which was not a pleasant thing to see while one is waiting to eat. When the food arrived, we were impressed by the food presentation, the freshness, the taste, and the portion size. Good food, so we will be back again to try other dishes, but maybe next time we'll find out when it is less busy.

Reviewed for 2 stars and got a response calling me out for lying and trying to wrongly defend themselves. Heres the receipt that said $11 per can of coke. Wasn't me that paid so I didn't see the receipt till later. Don't try calling people out on something and defend yourselves when your wrong it's highly unprofessional and stupid. The dish with egg missing was also not mine and the person wasn't sure until they finished it. Also if you would look at it correctly before responding it has 2 goreng noodles. One of which is supposed to have egg, and again it wasn't me who paid. The person who did paid said he would sort it out. I placed a bad review for the sake of what a bad review is for. To inform others.

Absolutley terrible service, completely clueless staff!

Decided to get lunch here with my wife and kids today. The kids meals came out soon enough, but there was no cutlery on the table. When I politely asked the waitress who brought out the meals for knives and forks, she said she'd get them and then proceeded to clear the table behind us as a priority. Only after the table was cleared, did she bring us the cutlery, so the kids could actually eat the meals in front of them. This was slightly annoying and wouldn't be notable in itself, but it gets worse...

My meal came out shortly after the kid's meals and I expected my wife's soon after. After ten minutes of my poor wife watching me and the kids eat our meals, I was forced to go to the front counter to ask them if they'd forgotten her meal (the place wasn't even busy). The girl at the front counter was friendly enough, and checked with the kitchen; she came back, apologised, and told me the missing meal was coming now, so I sat back at my table. Again, IF this was the end of it, not really notable, but to our disbelief, instead of our meal coming, we then watched the waitress taking meals to a table of people who arrived after us.

Another five minutes passed, and STILL no meal! I kept saying to my wife; the girl said yours was supposed to be coming now!

We then got sick of waiting a second time and my wife offered to go ask at the front counter AGAIN (as she wanted me to be able to finish my meal). She was gone for five minutes and I expected her to come back followed by wait staff bringing her meal. But no - just her. I asked her what happened? She said she made to wait at the counter while she overheard the kitchen staff arguing about how they made the order ages ago, and where did it go, and who sent it to the wrong table etc. until the poor girl at the counter came to once again apologise to my wife and she told her it's getting sorted now, so my wife sat back at our table.

Me and the kids had long finished our meals by now.

A member of the kitchen staff then came to our table pointing at a cash register receipt of our order, asking us to tell him which of the meals on the order hadn't arrived. At this stage we were in disbelief at the lack of organisation, lack of service and lack of apology. Just behind this staff member came the waitress with a soup that we're sure she'd just fetched off of a table of other patrons and brought straight to ours, she handed it to my wife with both of her thumbs overhanging the inside of the soup bowl. The soup was not the specific soup my wife ordered and the rice she ordered as a side, STILL hadn't arrived.

At this point we we're rightfully fed up and decided that there was no point waiting any longer and went to the counter to ask for our money back on the items we didn't receive. The girl at the counter went to the kitchen to query the refund, we heard (I guess) management agreeing to refund us. We were then refunded only for the items we didn't receive (normally at this stage a voucher or an apology from management would be the norm). At no state did any member of management come to speak to us face to face, and the only apology we got was from the poor girl at the counter who had nothing to do with poor service. Terrible customer service and clueless wait staff. We left very unhappy and with my poor wife never having eaten anything (apart from what I shared of my meal).

Will...

Okay, so this is my four star review that gets five because there's so much to love about this restaurant and just one little niggle, and I wouldn't want anyone to miss trying it for themselves. Firstly, what a wonderful place. Homely and welcoming with a variety of indoor and outdoor settings that would suit dinning any time of the day, and beautifully situated to boot. The food? oh wow. Just fantastic with a great selection of Thai and western food meaning even your fussiest companions should find something to their liking. Generous and affordable serving sizes means nobody's going home hungry. I had the Massaman, and it had to one of the best examples I've ever eaten, though I had some regrets over having too much of a starter since I couldn't finish every last drop of it. Everyone's meals looked great with considerable care taken and quality ingredients used and everyone was impressed. If you love your Thai curries and have a similarly minded dining group, I would recommend getting a few different ones, a few serves of rice and sharing since they're big enough. Now my gripe, the service. I thought it could just be me but some other reviews have also mentioned it. Now I should add, I've been in the catering game myself, so I understand the pressure which undoubtedly isn't made any easier with COVID. So I want this to be a 'positive' criticism, because if this was sorted, this little gem of a restaurant would be absolutely brilliant. Don't get me wrong. The staff were very courteous and friendly, just a little harried and clearly not coping too well. Our waitress was apologetic and personally took shared responsibility, which is quite commendable. So, if the owner reads this, I get it. Look, your dinners aren't necessarily in a rush, but get those starters and drinks out and the rest will flow nicely. Serve tables in the order they're seated. Invest in your people and throw a little training in, because they deserve it, and your food definitely deserves it. Ultimately I'll be back and I honestly hope Brook 508 is around for...
