For Mother's Day my sister and I decided to treat ourselves for breakfast while kids were at sports, thought we could relax, catch up before we have busy day ahead.
We decides to try this cafe since we always go to our favourite Blend Cafe and Pizza Bar.
We acknowledge that it is Mother's Day and everyone was busy. We arrived at 8.10am, we didn't have any bookings. We wanted to sit on table #2 on left as you walk inside the door. However, there was menu on table and a card with written "reserved". There were very few tables near the counter with no "reserved" sign, however we saw table #1 empty, no menu and no sign "reserved". So we sat there, and I ordered our meals. I ordered chai latte, the lady advised me if I wanted loose leaf or powder, I chose the loose leaf. I also ordered flat white, French toast and Field Mushrooms with Sour Dough bread. 20minutes later sitting down, a waitress asked if we have any booking, we said no. She advised us that table #1 is also reserved and part of table #2. We told her there was no sign on table #1 as she can see, plus when we saw "reserved" sign is in table #2 only, how are we to know that table #1 was part of table #2? There was no sign, and tables were not joined at all, plus no menus placed on table #1. She advised us it is booked and people are coming at 8.30am. We told her there was no sign hence we sat there, but since someone is coming and we sat here waiting for our order, we are happy to move but let us know where we can sit, since we not can't tell which tables are FREE, since their way of reserving tables are confusing.
She sat us outside, the large table in front on left side, there was a guy sitting there, and table had a reserved sign for 9.15am.
The guy also had same issue, he was sitting in no reserved table inside, and was told to go outside. Since it is only 8.30am we thought it will be fine.
Another 10minutes later, I realised our order was ordered for table #1, where we were originally located. My sister had to go inside and tell the waitress. The guy sharing the table with us, also went inside to let the waitress know he is now sitting outside too, and his original order was when he was in table inside.
Our coffee arrived, and I realised my chai latte was from powder, not a lose leaf chai. Our meals finally arrived at 9.00am. By that time we were worried in case the people who booked the table we got transferred might arrive soon, and we didn't want to rush our meals since we already waited. We decided to move to a smaller table outside, with no reserved sign, however there were cups and plates from previous group, we tried to flag one of the waitress but we decided to clean the tables ourselves. We moved the dirty dishes on one side, and placed our plates and we swapped tables (again). At 9.10am the people arrived on previous table. Thank goodness we moved. By that time we were already very disappointed, bad chai, extremely poor service, and dried toasts. All the time we were there, the waitress who moved us from table #2 was not sorry and made us feel it was our fault for not booking and that table #2 is part of table #1.
When an establishment is busy, especially during special occasion such as Mother's Day, this is the best time to stand out, where you can make your customers feel welcome and be sincere and apologetic.
Overall, not a good experience at all, very poor service and meals and coffee ordered were below average. For $50, definitely...
Β Β Β Read moreI ordered the french toast. The toast itself is the cheapest thinnest tip top style sandwich bread cut diagonally, and dipped into egg/milk batter so thick that there was a ring of badly fried egg around the whole thing.
They have burnt bananas on top, cut in half and still in their skins, with both sides βcharredβ and the skins touching on top of the bread! This puts a truly horrific burnt acrid taste into the toast which lingered for approximately one hour afterwards in the worst way. I did eat almost the whole thing sans fruit hoping it would get better, and truly regret it.
My wife had eggs benedict which has two extremely thick pieces of rustic bread toasted, with spinach eggs (slightly runny). She only had half and compared it to coffee club but that this is less value for money. Personally Iβd prefer the coffee club rendition as the toast there is more balanced, the eggs better, ham and plenty of bacon and sauce to die for. Hers did not look appetising to me.
Plus two hash browns. These wereβ¦ something. Flat and circular, slightly over cooked on the outside and mushy on the inside, and not something Iβd eat again. However I feel if they were shaped and cooked properly in a different way they could have a success with them (because the contents had a trace of mustard and that reminds me of the little submarine style ones The Imp cafe used to do deep fried, and those were amazing; these were not).
Iced mochas were amazingly not good as well. Iβd encourage you to try iced mochas literally anywhere else, and compare. Somehow they tasted so watery and flavourless? Even with ice cream and cream? I canβt explain how this is even possible.
Thereβs free wifi which is very good because thereβs only 3G cell reception inside at least for my phone. Kudos for that.
Overall although the staff are friendly (this is not their fault!) and parking is busy but generally accessible by the looks of it, the food is so bad Iβd never return. Iβm amazed it has so many stars and so many people were eating there. Maybe there are other good items on the menu?
This place needs a cook to sit down and really evaluate what theyβre doing in each breakfast dish because to me it looked haphazard, nonsensical and tasted worse.
The above was $64.80 and while I donβt count pennies especially in this economic climate where every business is doing it tough, I felt sad like I had completely wasted it and my morning. I would not have wanted to pay for this at any price, but that it is so highly priced and so substandard is a huge slap...
Β Β Β Read moreThis old and rundown place should be called Disgusting Fingers or at the very least, Disappointing Fingers. I havenβt visited this cafe in a decade or so. Back then, it was our go-to for coeliac-friendly food choices so for old timeβs sake, I thought Iβd treat my dad to lunch here but didnβt expect such a poor experience. So much has changed since the previous owners moved on. The cabinets are barely full. No fresh cakes anymore. No fresh salads. Just pre-made sandwiches and wraps at exorbitant prices.
My dad ordered the Grandma Sandwich ($17.50!) but quite frankly, grandma would roll over if she saw what came to the table. A sloppy mess of lettuce tomato avocado and at least a whole bottle of aioli. Dad wanted to amp up the texture so added ham at the time of ordering ($4 extra!) but he got tasteless packet ham instead of freshly carved off the bone ham. He paid $21.50 and only ate one half bc of the overwhelming aoli.
I ordered a honey pumpkin wrap. It was gross. The pumpkin and eggplant were in chunks and very crunchy. The whole thing was tasteless. Also it was barely toasted so the inside was cold. I didnβt hesitate to ask for a refund bc for $14.50, it was a ripoff just to look at let alone taste. The waitress didnβt argue about returning my money. Something tells me it happens often.
Good cafes employ chefs. This one employs a cook who is tasked with warming up pre-made foods and delivering on a broad menu which Iβm sure disappoints on more levels than what we experienced today. The staff here look bored. The floors look dirty. The lighting is dismal. On a scale of 1-10 where 10 is the worldβs best cafe and 1 is the worst, DF is a -50. Stay away. You have...
