As I was on an annual leave day my wife and I went to The Grove Grill for lunch Friday 8th Feb 2013. I was lucky, the waitress dropped my knive and fork, luckily she caught my knive by the sharp end and put it beside my plate so I could still use it...
My wife ordered the Cajun lamb CUTLETS for $25 while I ordered the scotch fillet steak sandwich for $20 so the meal was $45. Would have been great if what we paid for is what we got. My wife was served one and a half thin lamb FOREQUARTER chops on a salad with a some sort of green pesto. My scotch steak sandwich.. well it was literally 4mm thick, overcooked and burnt. It may have been scotch but how would you tell. At least it was cut in half so I didn't have to use that knife that the waitress managed to save for me.....
Go to pay the bill and the waitress is busy with other things and no questions about how we enjoyed the meal (maybe she knew...).
There were three things that made the lunch enjoyable and they were. My wifes company (we don't get much time to go out for lunch together without our kids), the race cars that arrived while we had 'lunch', and the cheap'ish drinks.
Saving grace for our long weekend is that on Sunday we went to the High Wycombe pub and my wife had a very tasty salmon dish for $29 and I had some ever so tender bbq ribs with chips AND a pint of pale ale for the princely sum of $15 for a total of $44 for the two of us. Oh and our three older kids had spag bog, nuggets and chips, and a proper wood fired hawian pizza, plus ice cream for all three AND ice cream slushies for the TOTAL of $20.85. Sure beats the $14 per child 'meal' that The Grove Grill charges.. Funny but the High Wycombe was packed, the Grove Grill wasn't.... wonder why?

Read more30/01/25: I haven't been back for a while. The people that I know that used to go here had a run in with the manager. She accused their kids (more than one family) of playing up and, when they tried to explain that it wasn't them, the manager got argumentative and banned them. Terrible management which is a real shame, not worth the hassle. Revised rating from 5 to 1 star. 26/10/22: I've been here a couple of times in the last month or so with family that live out this way. You don't expect such a good Restaurant and Bar to be in a Motel. There are always a lot of long haul trucks parked out the back, so that should be a bit of a clue. On both occasions we had a big group of more than 20 plus kids and the service has been fantastic. They are really good at getting all of the meals out at the same time. Everyone at the table has enjoyed their meals on both occasions. Last time I had the fish and chips which were really good, this time it was the steak sandwich which was excellent. The steak was perfect for a steak sandwich, tender and tasty. The chips are great and the garlic bread was really nice. The bar prices are reasonable. The kids love the playground and it keeps them busy for the whole night. The staff are always super friendly and helpful. Lana did an excellent job tonight and was up for good laugh. A great place for a feed and a few beers and looks like a great place to stay. Highly...
Read moreOn a Friday without reservations but in the cool of an off season June evening we walked into The Grove and were seated at a table near the window. We ordered wine and then fried potato skins to start. Surprised by sweet potato skins, but loving them instantly, we finished the entire dish! Onward to chicken parm, which turned out to be a hearty Australian take on a classic. It was a slab of breaded chicken, nicely fried, accompanied by large cut fries (chips, I think they might call them here), and somehow bacon ended up part of the deal also. Tasty, filling, and not especially traditional but darn good. The asparagus and pumpkin risotto was really flavorful and nice, though pumpkin and asparagus were literally the forefront and the risotto itself was sparse and background kept. Coffee after dinner was promptly brought after being ordered and it was quite smooth. Dessert took a good while but was worth it in the end. Finally, like many restaurants here, we paid at the counter upon completion of our dinner. The wait staff was very sweet and patient dealing with our foreign-ness and answering our questions. Really this place is a special one, with some old fashioned as well as new fashioned recipes, and is totally...
