Hey! Just an update to my previous review of this excellent tavern. As a city train commuter living in the village, I pop in most days for a chilling-out-after-work pint. The Wellard team are exceptional, attentive, genuinely chatty and interested in what their customers have to say
Superbly marshalled by Shauna, (who seems to be everywhere at the one time, seating diners, serving behind the bar, laughing politely at mine and other patrons crappy jokes, and welcoming and organising group events as the parties arrive) the team gels very well, supporting each other.
Equally, I often marvel, on occasions when the pub is busy, at the speed Michelle undertakes the many tasks required to keep the bar and restaurant moving smoothly. Michelle is indeed world class at preparing cocktails, spinning those shakers around creating all sorts of delightful drinks, with ease.
I’ve eaten in the Well several times and never been disappointed. Being a dark ale drinker, when the beer I like went off the list, Ellie and Shauna arranged for another similar beer to come on tap. As a regular customer I can’t ask for better service than that!
I was lucky enough the other week to win the Friday Night Meat Raffle (get along there on an Friday before six guys, it’s worth it), and the bar team’s response made me feel like I’d won the Lotto! By the way those Melaleuka Farm beef sausages are something else, very tasty, and are on the pub food menu Bangers & Mash. Good eating.
All in The Wellard continues to get a 10/10 from me. Take a bow Shauna, Michelle, Olivia, Ellie, and all the team, all credit to you all. First class.
Come visit for a beer and a burger folks, and see for yourselves. Bring your friends....
Read moreWas busy on a Friday night. We booked a table for 2, wasn't sure what the go was for ordering food since no table service. Queued up for 15 to 20 minutes to then be asked for everyone to spread out over the bar. Which extended our wait as we would have been next if we stayed put. Lady who served us only had a vague knowing where our reserved table was and gave u as another number just in case it was already taken. Was very confusing as page is definitely caters for lot's of diners, barely any stools for just drinkers. Will be better if they get table service. We preferred the brushetta which got to our table very quickly. Probably because the bread wasn't grilled / toasted. No side plates served so i spilled my share all over the table as the soft bread fell apart. For mains i had s steak sandwich which for me was the saving grace for the night. Very tasty and very tender meat. Bread was delicious n soft. Partner ordered chicken parmi which i got to taste and it was really nice too. Chips on both plates were plain and boring. All pubs suffer from this though, for me sauce n vinegar would seal the deal. Won't be in a rush to go back for a meal unless we hear they start doing table service. Plenty of room for big functions or a big...

My recent visits to The Wellard have been quite disappointing, largely due to a severe lack of concern for customer well-being.
A few months ago, I experienced food poisoning after eating here. When I called the pub the next day to inform them, the response was incredibly dismissive. All I received was a terse "you're a superstar, thanks for letting me know mate," with absolutely no apology or genuine concern for my illness.
Hoping things might have improved, I returned today for a drink. I made a lighthearted comment to the bartender about not ordering food due to my previous experience, expecting perhaps a simple "sorry to hear that or something." Instead, I was met with an immediate, defensive reaction. She insisted it "wouldn't have been here" and mentioned health and safety courses they all take, again, completely devoid of any apology or empathy.
Beyond the concerning food safety and customer service issues, the drink prices are exceptionally high. I paid $16.50 for a single ginger beer, which feels exorbitant.
Overall, the combination of a dismissive attitude towards serious health concerns and steep prices makes for a very unwelcoming and unsatisfactory experience. I would strongly...
