BONITO PERUVIAN EATERY– Fine Peruvian Dining in downtown Wollongbar Shop 10/54 Simpson Ave, Wollongbar NSW 2477 About 30 minutes inland from Byron Bay’s yuppie food scene lies Bonito – a Peruvian restaurant with zero ocean views, zero pretension, and MAXIMUM deliciousness. Tucked away in a small shop in Wollongbar, Bonito faces the glamorous panorama of a shopping centre car park. Yes, you can dine alfresco while admiring Holden Utes reverse park and drop wheelies exiting the car park. But hey, we came for the ceviche, not the scenery – and let me tell you, the food is a knockout. Almost every dish was exceptional. Not massive in size (think “delicately portioned” rather than “feed a lumberjack”), but each bite packed the kind of joy that makes you close your eyes and nod like a food critic on a good day. Now let’s talk Pisco cocktails – Peru’s national treasure. These were so good we considered starting a small revolution to bring them to every Aussie pub (Hopefully the tavern a few doors away does not get on the bandwagon). Seriously, call a taxi/uber or bribe a designated driver. You’ll want more than one. The service was warm and genuinely passionate Bonito is a culinary plot twist. From the outside, you’re expecting “meh.” From the kitchen? Pure magic. If you’re even vaguely into food that’s fresh, zesty, and made with love, go. IMMEDIATELY

Great experience of Peruvian food here!! We got there very early and we could appreciate the lovely and minimalist decoration that I personally found beautiful or should I say... Bonito. The staff and service is super friendly and attentive. The ambience is really nice and the music just gives the right vibes, cozy vibes. The food, well... Omg, I loved everything!! The ceviche is their signature, always perfect; you can taste the freshness of their products. For me the star of the night was the CAUSA, I would've eaten another one if I didn't order too much food. I think you CAN'T miss the causa, don't do it, it's delicious!! They also have a Peruvian beer called Cuzqueña and a soft drink, we had the beer and we loved it as well as the meringado, if I have to suggest one dessert, that is the one, go for the meringado and thank me later. I would highly recommend Bonito to all my friends and people I know and don't for a Peruvian and different food experience. Well done guys and thank you for the amazing dinner.

This place is a hidden gem. A work colleague took me here as it was the only thing on offer apart from the pub in the area. Not that anything was wrong with the pub food. Also great. But the flavours and food this place turned out was delicious. Every bite was enjoyed and we shared the meals which was easy to do. Highly recommended the lamb main dish. Pure flavour. And some small s3lections of ceviche's that you would think you could only get as good as the cities. Went there 2 nights in a row. Sorry for the lack of images. Just too hungry and forgot.

What a delightful place from the moment you enter. The waitress is personal, friendly and informative. The chef is attentive to us allergy sufferers which is always appreciated. We didn’t have any drinks but will definitely try next time as the pisco sours were heading out to every table. We tried - Ceviche Classico OMG Pulpo dish OMG Ox heart was enjoyable even though one was a little tough, but the sauce that went with them was delicious 😋

A friend had the fish of the day served with a bow of rice with corn and she said it was amazing also.

We all shared the 2 desserts on offer - Peruvian donuts with a fig leaf sauce - wouldn’t try again but the Crùme Caramel shut up and take my money 💰 Amazing dish of smooth flavoursome yumminess

Food is definitely photo worthy but didn’t take any to add even more suspense to a restaurant you must try if the menu is your type of food.

We...
