Wollongbar Tavern — Restaurant in Wollongbar

I have been here five or six times over a two year period, and every time, the flies are a particular bother. The main doors are mostly always wide open and one can't take two mouthfuls of food without doing the "Aussie Salute." Re the food, the menu is extensive and there are $10 special meals included. However I went in today for a $10 steak and some desperately desired baked vegetables and it ended up costing me $17 because the steak comes with chips and salad for $10. I ordered hot vegetables, which were $5 extra and the gravy (which is always delicious) was $2 extra. There were no baked vegetables, the plate was half filled with an obscene amount of mashed potato, the brocollini was half raw and tough, the char grilled baby zucchini was lovely BUT (for the third time that I have given it the benefit of the doubt) the grilled steak was so tough one would need the jaws of a Rottwieler to chew through it. I had ordered it medium to well done, but it arrived not even medium and some blood mixed with the gravy, which was very off putting. This is par for the course re the steak I have had there on any occasion and I consider this sort of service a waste of good food, plus a waste of my money and the surroundings are always noisy and crowded. Honestly, had much higher expectations. A lot of people raved about how amazing the food was. Service was great from both sections of the Tavern. Food was pretty quick. Food was also pretty bad. I got my 2 kids a burger. It was a a patty wedged between 2 pieces of bun with some homebrand sauce. high five for the creativity maybe some cheese next time at least. Espeically for $12.

My food was below average. $32 for the 400 rump, salad and chip. Half of the rump was justttt cooked past the point of medium rare but the other half was chewy and overdone and burnt. Really have no idea how that is even possible. The salad was terrible. It was just some unwashed lettuce, some sliced with tomatoes and onion with zero dressing. At least the dirt taste added something a bit extra. The chips where soggy, undercooked and underwhelming. The mushroom sauce was nice. The wings hit a good spot.

Went here for a nice lunch to be utterly disappointed in the lack of service and the quality of the meals, as well as being delayed one meal while all other meals on same order were already delivered. It took an extra 20 minutes to get that meal delivered, once delivered the steak and chips were over done and cold. Then the manager Tom came to speak to me and was rude yet told me to be polite, which I stated I am being polite. Gave refund and took the meal then proceeded to blame me for their deep fryer playing up after stating “this is not your fault but”. I should also state that in the lead up to the manager speaking to me there were chips being served to every other customer in the vicinity but not our meal.
