A weekend with little to do saw us take a trip down south in search of a surf and some good food and coffee. The beaches and cafes were packed but we were glad google provided the goods and led us to a cafe off the Main Street, on the tree lined Moore St. It still had the seaside suburb, smell of the sea but yet without the crowds. That said there was still a queue with cafe goers like us keen for a quality meal. Not only a few tourists, but also locals with their straw hats, linen overalls and dogs chilling over a cup of coffee in the arty ceramic cups. We love the feel and vibe of this cafe, an old school vintage / hip vibe, with a mix of wooden and metal tables, bench seating at the window and white walls with their wooden shelves full of antique kitchen gear and bottles of relishes, preserves, cartons of eggs and empty baskets where there’s normally loaves of Pane Paradiso bread for sale (the popularity of the day had seen them sell out). The front counter has a cabinet with pastries and cakes. The menu here is great, focusing on whole foods, commuted to sustainable practices and local suppliers. They have a great variety of dishes from the Kangaroo Valley Eggs to an almond Bircher or a Gruyere toastie to name a few. We’re informed that they’re out of a lot of things due to being so busy which was great to know ahead of time. Luckily the dishes we wanted were available. The Green scramble was brilliant, the eggs mixed with sautéed chard and verde topped with Meredith Dairy goats feta and tomatoes. This vegetarian dish was sitting atop some of the best sourdough we’ve ever tasted. We also opted for the free range pulled pork tacos on blue corn tortillas, served with a pineapple chutney and slaw. This was a super tasty dish and generous in size. They also have excellent coffee, using Single 'O Killer Bee. Tastes of dark honey, toffee, tropical fruits, sweetness and acidity, we had both a latte and an iced latte. We especially love that the milk based coffees come in a range of cool ceramic cups. Coffee alternatives such as Organic mate latte, Organic Dandy latte, Turmeric Latte, kombucha, smoothies, locally made teas or cold pressed juices are also available. Considering how busy it was, we were impressed with the speed and also the efficiency and positivity of the staff. We look forward to...
Read moreUPDATE: I have changed our review to 5 stars after the service has dramatically improved over our last few visits! Yay!
OLD REVIEW: It would be a 5+ for food - really enjoy the food here! But the service couldn’t have been any worse. We visited a few weeks ago for the second time bc we LOVED it so the first time. Two girls just ignored us for about 20 minutes while we waited at the door - just kept walking past us and never once “we’ll be right with you” or anything (and they weren’t crazy busy), then were quite dismissive when we were seated, and brought us juice - one with ice one without and when I asked if I could get some in mine the response was “oh, we ran out, I’ll have to get some more” a bit bothered that I asked, our meal ordered got messed up and we were given the wrong one and then two minutes later she came back “did you touch this?” And then gave it to another table. Our actual meal came 30min later after my partner had long finished his. We hope it was just a bad day because we love everything else about the spot! Going back...
Read moreLunch at @moorestreetgeneral. Didn't realise I have not posted a review on this cafe. It is located off the main drag. On a quiet little street with a lovely boutique next door. Today, we had their chilli eggs and Turkish eggs, scrambled/poached to perfection, both were "eggcellent". They make great coffee too. I had their ice cream coffee (ice cream and espresso). Yum! Cafe has a good vibe. Never experienced bad food or service here. Staff are warm, friendly and helpful as well. Their menu changes quite often. I still dreamed of the sausage dish I had there years ago!! Highly...
