UPDATED REVIEW: Wow, what a remarkable improvement! The Woy Woy Hotel promptly responded to my email and reached out to the manager, Tom. Thanks to Tom’s swift action, the issue was resolved, and we were graciously offered a complimentary meal. The service was exceptional. The steak was seasoned well and tender, while the burger was delicious. However, I suggest adding tomato to the salad and enhancing the seasoning.

OLD REVIEW:

Dear Owner/Manager,

Upon my arrival on Thursday, the 19th, I encountered several issues that significantly impacted my dining experience.

Firstly, despite signing up for a VIP Card online, I was informed that the card was not linked to the system. This oversight resulted in a lengthy wait, as I was required to step out of line to sign a paper to obtain the card. The online form, which was not linked, had caused unnecessary delays.

Once I had the card, I encountered another problem. The card was not functioning, and I was denied the 5% discount. I had to request that the soft drink be removed from my order.

Also I booked online to reserve a table 5hrs prior and when I arrived my table wasn’t reserved.

Regarding the cocktails, my partner’s drink took approximately 10-15 minutes to prepare, as the staff member was unfamiliar with the recipe. Once the drink was served, it was found to be of poor quality.

The food options were also disappointing. The garlic bread with cheese tasted soft “not crunchy” and unappetizing, as if the cheese had been melted on top of a soggy bread slice. My mother’s schnitzel was dry and lacked flavor. The only satisfactory dish of the evening was the two burgers that my partner and I ordered.

Overall, the staff appeared to be poorly trained and rushed into their roles without adequate preparation. The only positive aspect of the night was the assistance provided by a staff member named “Phoenix.” She promptly rectified the issues with our drinks and offered to remake the food, although we declined due to the extended wait time.

I would not recommend this establishment to others and would consider alternative dining options, such as the Gosford RSL, for a more satisfactory meal. Thank you for your attention to...

YET ANOTHER UPDATE TO MY REVIEW, BACK TO 5 STAR: Pelicans some time ago went back to their famous curvy chips. Portions are decent again. Haven't had the cheesecake in a while, so can't comment as to whether they've gone back to their old classic recipe. Can't go past the sticky date pudding though, yum!

UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS REVIEW BELOW: Sadly I must drop a star. Pelicans no longer do their famous curvy chips. Rather, they now serve up super ordinary, boring run of the mill chips. They have also changed the recipe of their famous oreo cheesecake. It's still good, but not anywhere near as good and is often too blubbery, like the chef put too much gelatin into the cheesecake mix. Meal portions seem to have shrunk and the side salads aren't as good anymore. Still a great place for a feed and great for the kids. Sadly the food is no longer standout as it used to be.

PREVIOUS REVIEW: One of the best pub feeds you'll come across. My wife, son and I love coming here. Great kids play area, extensive menu offering more than just the usual pub fare, very good food (although I admit we have had some meals that weren't quite so up there, only rarely). The daily and lunch specials are a steal and very generous. Fish and chips is always spot on, any time you're put off by a bad fish experience elsewhere, come here and it'll restore your faith. The chips are always great, very unusual and unique cut that we've never seen elsewhere. The schnitzels are the best, big call, but for real, the crumb coating is the perfect combo of taste and texture. The cannelloni is amazing. The cheese and spinach triangles are complete outer body, best cheese and spinach creations we've ever encountered, worldwide. The dressing drizzled on the side salad is perfect. Desserts are fab, very potentially the best sticky date pudding I've encountered. Service is friendly, staff buzz about and do a great job to get the food out quickly, keep the place clean and keep calm despite the occasionally reckless kids getting under their feet and near tripping them up. Highly...

Definitely not as advertised on Sydney weekender I've been back a few times since the reopening, and while the renovations are fantastic, the overall experience falls short. The service is good and the staff are accommodating, but that’s about where the positives end.

There’s a real issue with the beers—whether it’s the lines or the schooner glasses, they’re often flat. This isn’t just my experience; plenty of others have raised the same concern.

The biggest letdown, though, is the food. I won’t be back until it improves. During the first week after opening, I ordered a medium-rare steak, but what arrived was so undercooked it was practically raw. The manager was understanding and took it back, but instead of a fresh steak, the same one was just thrown back on the grill for a few minutes and sent out again.

Hoping things had improved, I gave it another shot this week with a mate. We both went for a safe option—schnitzels—but they came out dry, overcooked, and lacking flavor, with a watery gravy. Neither of us finished our meals and ended up going elsewhere.

For the prices they’re charging, the quality just isn’t there. If they can sort out these issues, the pub has the potential to be a great venue, but for now, it’s...

Tough review. Old pub was great. Despite the upgrade, new pub is really noisy. Despite carpet, noise levels are unpleasant when you have to yell at each other. Returned the smoked sweet potato and corn fritters. Steak was lovely. Mushroom gravy was thin and - where were the mushrooms. Schnitzel was lovely. No tomato in any salads Octopus was big, and while the tentacles were nice, as it got thicker, it got tougher. Korean chicken wings - chalky. Texture was unpleasant. Stewed. Not crisp. Having a Korean son in law, can't say there were any Korean flavours. Potato scallops were lovely and a great item on the menu, but - grab a couple of extra serviettes to remove the extra oil. I have to ask why they put gungy green stuff on the dishes as garnish!! Staff were lovely. Will I go back (to basically my local pub) - no. We were a group of 6 and it was very ordinary food. There are better places to eat. Truly sorry for an honest review...

First visit. The renovation is excellent and the whole pub is really nicely done. Food wise the menu is full of tempting items. We shared a tuna tartare to start which was pretty good. The beef ragu was meaty and fall apart goodness. It did lack a bit of depth in flavor and the pasta was slightly overcooked. I had the salmon, again slightly overcooked but still very good, and the kipfler potatoes made me very happy. The only flaw was a clumsy application of some sort of mayo, smothered all over the dish. It looked like it was out of the 70s, and was just unnecessary. A bit on the side would be fine. Overall... enjoyed and will return and hopefully the kitchen will keep improving. Some craft beers on tap would be nice too 👍 😉
