"Zur Maierin" Bad Kleinkirchheim — Restaurant in Deutsch-Griffen

Local Gem!

This is another place that'll make it onto the David & Izzy guide of local gems! We ate here during our trip to Bad Kleinkirchheim last week.

This is a charming, family run, traditional Austrian restaurant on the main street through Bad Kleinkirchheim. It has literally about 4 tables inside (room at the bar for another 6 people to eat and the bar has been made to accommodate this) with 4 or 5 more out the front with a fire pit.

Inside feels super cosy and charming, which is further enhanced by the friendly and chatty staff.

And the food, wowzers.... massive portions of absolutely delicious food! The local equivalent of a mixed, grill with all local produce, was huge and delicious with loads of different meats! The Cordon Bleu has an amazing crispy coating, the chicken was moist, and the local cheese and ham just added further flavours.

We had the 2 mains and about 4 drinks each, and it came to around €70.

This is a very traditional and typical restaurant for the Austrian culture. I really enjoyed the homey vibe of the restaurant, the fact that it had only a few tables it felt private and very calming. But there were plenty of negative aspects when it comes to the food and the service of the restaurant. The first thing that was offsetting was that the menu was only in dutch, for a touristic place i think an English translation it is a must. Secondly the food did not have any spices it was “bland”. I will point out that the vegan burger was the most disappointing dish out of all of them. And lastly the waitress kept coming to our table speaking to us in dutch even though she knew from the beginning that we were foreigners. All in all i would only visit this place for a beer (if i really have to). Best regards hope this review motivates you to...

We made a reservation for my group, but upon arrival, no table was available. The staff insisted we had called the wrong number, even after we showed them the number we dialed, which matched the one listed on their menu.

After a friend posted a review about this experience, the restaurant responded, acknowledging that we had indeed made a reservation but claimed it was done incorrectly.

Despite this admission, we did not receive an apology. This experience was disappointing, and I hope the restaurant improves its reservation process and customer service to prevent similar issues...
