Mediterranean Wind Bistro — Restaurant in Gemeinde Tulln an der Donau

I had the pleasure of dining at Mediterranean Wind Bistro in Tulln on a spring day in March 2022. My husband and I were in town touring the local plant shops and stumbled upon this gem by chance. We decided to give it a try and were blown away by the experience.

We started with the giant fried calamari, subulaki, and rice-wrapped wine leaves, along with a few salads. All of the dishes were exceptional, and exceeded our expectations. The calamari was perfectly crispy and tender, and the subulaki was cooked to perfection. The rice-wrapped wine leaves were a standout, bursting with flavor.

To top it off, we were offered a complimentary dessert and a digestive alcohol drink, which was a lovely touch of hospitality. After our busy day of touring and shopping, we were very hungry and appreciated the generous portions and attentive service.

We also purchased a bottle of the restaurant's olive oil, which was excellent and added a wonderful flavor to our meals at home.

Das Lokal ist als Bistro bezeichnet und genau das ist das, was ich mag. Zwar etwas enger, aber kein Schickimicki. Die Speisen müssen von einem anderen Gebäudeteil zu den Sitzplätzen getragen werden, aber keine/r sieht gestresst aus. Die Mitarbeiter sind durchwegs sehr freundlich. Im Sommer sitzt man auch im Innenhof in einer der kleinen Gassen zwischen den Häusern in der Stadtmitte. Die angebotenen griechischen Speisen schmecken uns sehr (besonders der Touch von Holzkohle), besonders die Fischplatte und die gemischte Platte mit den Lammkronen drauf. Ich mag dort alles so gerne, dass ich immer Gemischtes bestelle um alles kosten zu können. Diesesmal gab es die Fischplatte mit 3 überbackenen Austern, dicken und nicht zähen gebackenen Tintenfischringen, frittierten Sardellen sowie einem filetierten Fisch. Dazu Reis, bissl Tzaziki und außerdem noch einen kleinen griechischen Salat. Preis war glaube ich 18,90. Preis/Leistung einfach sensationell. Dass ich alles aufgegessen habe wundert mich, obwohl ich ein großer Esser bin. Danach gab es noch einen Ouzo und hausgemachten Kuchen vom Haus. Ein zweites Achtel vom Retsina verhinderte der Umstand, dass ich das Auto nachhause lenken musste. Ich denke das Bistro ist ein Familienbetrieb und man ist hier nicht so gewinnorientiert wie es mittlerweile beim Großteil der Gastronomie Wellen schlägt. So ist es ist auch für weniger Betuchte möglich ab und zu mal zum Essen auszugehen, ohne dauernd Pizza und Burger essen zu müssen. Mag dieses Lokal gar nicht so gerne empfehlen, denn wenn ich ohne vorher reserviert zu haben spontan komme, sind womöglich alle Plätze besetzt. 😀 Ich hoffe sehr, dass mein Lieblingslokal (von Tulln bis Klosterneuburg) sehr lange Qualität und Preise beibehält. P.S. wieviel ich pro Person ausgegeben habe ist hier zu vage mit zwischen 10 und 20, 20 und 30. Ich glaube wir haben für 1 Fischplatte und 1 Platte mit Huhn, 1 Bier und 1 Retsina um die 45 Euro bezahlt. Also für das Essen...

First Impression: Great backyard, nice music, friendly service through Sakis! Starter arrives: It’s literally so amazing that we almost forgot to take pictures. The Halloumi has an exceptional good dressing and the Pita is one of the best ones I ever had. As next a great mixed salad is served. Sorry for the picture of the empty bowl.
