Gasthaus Goldenes Schiff — Restaurant in Gemeinde Tulln an der Donau

Excellent all round! I was here for dinner as part of a work meeting, so the group was diverse and represented a number of nationalities. The staff were friendly and attentive and willing to accommodate the inevitable bill-splitting that goes with international project meetings!

The food was excellent! There was an exceptionally large choice across starters, mains and deserts, all with a decidedly Austrian focus. There were also excellent choices for vegetarians (all too often, vegetarian options are an afterthought but not here!). There was also an excellent selection of local wines and beers.

The place was recommended to us by an Austrian colleague and I would highly recommend it in turn.

One word of warning: the menu is...

Misslungenes Mittagsessen Menü 1: Lachs auf Püree entpuppte sich als ein totgebratenes Endstück eines Lachsfilets welches auf einen undefinierbarem Püree klebte das an Rand ein paar Tropfen Öl mit Kräutern aufwies. Optisch sah es so aus wie es geschmeckt hat: übel Menü 2: Kabeljau mit Kartoffelsalat auch hier das gleiche Armutszeugnis. 2 kleine Kabeljauendstücke welche totfritiert in einer braunen Panade mit einen mit Steinen versetzten Stück Zitrone auf einen großen Teller lagen. Dazu gab es eine kleine Schale mit Kartoffelsalat. Zu beiden Menüs gab es keine Soße und kein einziges Stück Salat. Anscheinend hat man uns die Reste serviert. Frei nach dem Moto: Wir wollen keine neuen Gäste. Es lebe unsere alten Stammgäste. Von der Seniorchefin wurde mir erklärt, das man sich diese weiteren Zutaten nicht leisten könne das die Lebensmittel zu teuer sind. Mit 2 Getränken habe ich 33,80€ für diesen Mist bezahlt. Auch ist es mit der Sauberkeit nicht all zu gut bestellt. Tische gehören abgewischt bevor ein Gast etwas Serviert bekommt. Ebenso sollte das WC sauber sein. Verschlissene Gläser gehören nicht mehr auf den Tisch! Ich kann es nicht nachvollziehen wie man dieses Restaurant so hoch bewerten kann. Es stellt sich immer wieder die Frage, welche Erwartungshaltung die anderen Gäste haben. Meine Familie wird hier jedoch nicht...

People rate this restaurant high. In my opinion 5* is high too much based on my experience. The service is so much slow even tough it was not peak hours and a lot of tables was empty. We ordered Tafelspitze 25 EUR, which was served unusual (at least or me) way, meat in soup first then after some time patatoes with souce and raddish, a bit confusing and surprising🙃 PS. Pay attention it is closed here...
