We visited Restaurant Zeitlos two years ago and despite the waitress being a bit abrasive and trying to upsell all the time (e.g. 'try this' items were then added to our bill; our bill was quite large at the end of the evening) we had a good evening, were invited to meet the chef at the end of the evening and decided to visit again this year.
This year was a different matter, from the moment we walked in the waitress (same one as last year) came across as being in a bad mood. I had emailed in advance saying “Both pescatarian; my wife prefers veggie optiosn but has an intolerance to cooked red pepper / capsicum” but were immediately told off when my wife ordered the Tomatoe Soup. But you were pescatarian we were told! Note: the fish items are several times the price so I guess she was into up-sell mode again. My wife’s main course turned out to be nothing like the description on the English menu and mine was medioca. My wife hates confrontation, so we just accepted it and made nice noises about the mains.
We had ordered the Kaiserschmarrn is advance (at the start of our meal as we like to have a quick meal) as it said on the website “THE fluffiest caramelised Kaiserschmarrn - Waiting time 17 to 23 minutes & our TIP order now!”. It took over 45 mins to arrive (2.5 hours for three courses) and was probably the worst one that I’ve ever eaten. Yes, it was fluffy but it really didn’t have hard any caramelisation on it.
The waitress asked how it was, and I said that it probably wasn’t worth the wait. She walked off and a minute or two later the chef appeared and said ‘so you think my cooking is sh1t do you’. Honestly, we couldn’t believe it. My wife was getting really upset at this point. The waitress offered to swap the desert for something else, but we declined this and decided to pay the bill and leave. My wife was close to tear at this point, so I ask her to go back to the car and I went into the restaurant and asked they had been so rude. The waitress basically continued to push back being more rude, so I asked for the bill (with a few choice words added). I was then told that there would be no bill; I did not need to pay for our...
Read moreAbsolutely enjoyed our meal Fine Dining in Hopfgarten Tamara head chef and Monica owner and maitre d. So, so competent. Coconut soup amuse bouche so familiar Tom ka gai. Wayne’s World? Lovely table presentation of EVOO, nuts, housemade butter, taramasalata, etc. Superb sharing service. Split our two mains into separate dishes. Great presentation and plating Schnitzel as light as air Angus Steak very nicely cooked black and med rare. Lovely lego potato cubes. Overall attention to detail is mind blowing. Case in point the mens rest room with tableau at eye level of antique motorised bicycle with assorted oil cans, blow torch and other tools of the time. Good local wine list - excellent zweigelt examples. Monica’s management of service impeccable, timing, empathy, coverage of the whole restaurant without stress. And what a play list - Dean Martin, the Stones, Talking Heads, a cross section of everything great in the second half of the 20th century. Great fine...
Read moreI would give this place more than 5 stars if I could. We came here on Christmas for dinner and were absolutely blown away by the service, atmosphere and quality of the food. This is the type of high end restaurant experience you would expect in a major city and to come across it in the beautiful (but small) skiing village of Hopfgarten was such a wonderful surprise. Everything from the timing of when the plates delivered, to the music and many recommendations provided made the evening perfect.
Bonus points for how kind and accommodating they were with my partner and I who are not fluent in German (we conversed in English). I strongly recommend visiting this restaurant if you...
