Hotel Alpenhof - Restaurant Il Vagabondo - Westendorf — Restaurant in Westendorf

My friend and I have just returned from a week at the Hotel Alpenhof and it was great. We arrived by train and the hotel offered to send us a cab for pick up but we'd already organised one. The great service continued after they cleared up some confusion with our rooms that we may have caused ourselves.||||The rooms werecomfortable and well cleaned every day and the showers were hot and powerful.||||Breakfast was plentiful and included in the hotel rate. Evening meals in the restaurant weren't included in the rate but we heard such great things locally that we gave them a go. The dishes were fresh, generous and very tasty, just what you need after a day on the slopes. We ended up having 3 meals there, freshly made tortellini, pizza, then on the final night opting for the lamb. We stayed for a week at the end Jan/early Feb and were really impressed. The accommodation is comfortable with decent-sized rooms with balconies, lots of hot water and everything as it should be. ||||What really makes it though, is the food and the staff. We were made to feel so welcome by Ingrid and Fred as well as all the table staff. The food has a real Italian flavour which is no bad thing as a week of half-board Austrian food can be a bit of a shock to the Irish system. Each evening meal was better than the next and we were never made to feel like the poor relations of the a la carte customers in the restaurant. It's a very popular spot though - so if you're thinking of trying a meal, book your table!||||Great location too - in the middle of the village but no noise problems and bus stop just across the road and Gondola...
