The Reiterstüberl Restaurant lies a 10-minute walk from Westendorf's village centre. Out of the many very good eating houses in the Brixen valley, the Reiterstüberl rightly earns a place near the top of our family recommendations. It has earned that acclaim over a number of years for three main reasons which come together to make a visit here a delight. 1) The Tirolean charm of the interior as well as the delightful outdoor eating area complete with smoker and mountain views. 2) The consistently good food, prepared by chef cook Hannes and his team. Good locally sourced products, finely seasoned from their own herb garden including regular seasonal features such as wild deer from the forest, lamb from the hills and nearby fresh-water lake fish. Accompanying traditional summer and winter dishes, you will expect excellence in the presentation of fresh vegetables and home-made pasta specialities (Spätzele). There is a fine choice of deserts and a range of children's dishes all at reasonable prices. Hannes, Sylvia and team make the perfect hosts and present an eloquent wine-list of excellent Austrian and regional wines for a variety of tastes. 3) Gastgemütlichkeit : Hospitality : A genuinely friendly, pleasant place to return to summer or winter. I recently dined at an Austrian restaurant nestled in the Alps, expecting a culinary journey straight out of a picturesque postcard. What I got instead was a veal schnitzel that must have been a trampoline in its past life – rubbery and utterly inedible. It seemed like the chef might have mistaken the recipe for a chew toy rather than a delicacy. However, when I flagged this culinary misadventure, the staff promptly swapped the bouncy veal for a pork schnitzel which, to my relief, proved to be quite palatable. I only had to pay for the pork schnitzel, making it a fair deal in the end. Despite the initial hiccup, the swift and effective response to my complaint added a sprinkle of humor to the experience. Das Reiterstüberl liegt am ruhigen Rand von Westendorf und bietet eine angenehme Atmosphäre für einen entspannten Abend. Wir waren am 16.10.2024, einem Mittwochabend, gegen 19 Uhr dort, und es war relativ leer. Auch ohne Reservierung hätten wir problemlos einen Platz bekommen.

Das Essen war insgesamt in Ordnung, jedoch mit einigen kleinen Schwächen. Das Blumenkohl-Steak für 13€ entsprach leider nicht ganz den Erwartungen – es war ein Stück Blumenkohl ohne Panade oder besondere Zubereitung auf einer Art Curry-Hunmus, eher unspektakulär. Das Cordon bleu für 18€ war in Ordnung, aber nicht herausragend – etwas trocken und mit zu wenig Pommes serviert. Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen war, dass Mayo, Ketchup und Preiselbeeren in Kunststoffpackungen kamen, was bei den Preisen etwas lieblos wirkte.

Die Getränke hingegen waren hervorragend, und der Kaiserschmarrn war definitiv das Highlight des Abends. Für 12,50€ bekamen wir eine großzügige Portion, die außen knusprig und innen wunderbar fluffig war, serviert mit Vanilleeis, Erdbeeren und Apfelmus – einfach köstlich!

Besonders hervorzuheben ist der Service, der überaus aufmerksam und immer präsent war, ohne aufdringlich zu wirken. Insgesamt stimmte das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis, da wir für zwei Personen knapp unter 60€ bezahlt haben, was angesichts der guten Qualität des Kaiserschmarrns und der Getränke absolut in Ordnung ist.

Fazit: Das Reiterstüberl bietet eine solide Auswahl an Gerichten und punktet mit freundlichem Service und einem fantastischen Dessert, hat jedoch noch Raum für kleine Verbesserungen bei der Präsentation und Qualität der...
