Schulhaus Tirol — Restaurant in Zellberg

For German speakers, the only connection the Gasthof has to a Schulhaus is the fact that it is on property on which a schoolhouse was located in the old days. I wonder how the kids could have paid attention to the blackboard with the great views over the valley!||The Gasthaus is located on the steep slope of the Zellberg above Zell a.d. Ziller and consists of a group of guest buildings in the Tyrolean style, the focal point being the new Gasthaus itself with some rooms and a large terrace affording fantastic views over the Ziller Valley and into the mountain ranges to the East and South. Everything is spotless and stylish Tyrolean with lots of wood.||||The breakfast, which is included in the price for the room, consists of cold cuts, cheeses, egg, breads and a small buffet of juices, yoghourt, jams and cereals. Since the place is run as a real Gasthof (Inn), you can also order lunch and dinner. The chef knows what he is doing and the portion are such that you feel you should walk, rather than drive up the steep road next time you go to town below. There is also a good selection of Austrian wines and spirits.||The hosts, Christian and Barbara, are very welcoming and pay attention to detail, but this being also a holiday apartment rental place, don't expect your bed to be made daily. ||||I am coming back to location: The Gasthaus gives you a good feeling of being 'in the mountains' for a rest from your travels. If you plan to do a lot in Zell and in the valley, remember that you may likely want to drive rather than negotiate the steep footpath. You may also want to know they do not accept credit cards, so carry enough cash to avoid a trip to the valley...

Mitte Dezember 2017 waren wir zu dritt für eine Übernachtung im Gasthof Schulhaus. Bereits im Vorfeld war der Kontakt mit dem Gasthof super. Unkompliziert und freundlich am Telefon und superschnelle Reaktion auf Emails – klasse!!! Was sehr hervorzuheben ist: wir wollten mit 15 Leuten dort selbst Schlitten bauen (Werkzeuge usw. wurden natürlich von uns mitgebracht) und benötigten einen Platz dafür. Der Senior-Chef Christian erklärte sich sofort damit einverstanden und freute sich auf unser Kommen! Dort angekommen wurden wir von der Chefin begrüßt und sofort zu unseren Zimmer gebracht. Wow, das Haus kann sich wirklich sehen lassen: alles liebevoll mit viel Holz restauriert, wunderschöne Marmor-Böden auf den Treppen. Die Zimmer selbst waren in ein Appartement integriert. Besonders der großzügige Wohnbereich ist hervorzuheben – ca. 25m² Wohnbereich mit großem Tisch und Eckbank und unglaublichem Ausblick auf das Zillertal… Hier fühlt man sich gleich wie zu Hause  Die Betten sind bequem, alles war sehr sauber und top gepflegt. Ganz besonders überrascht waren wir von der herausragenden Küche. Das anschließende Abendessen übertraf sämtliche Erwartungen!!! Hier lohnt sich die steile Anfahrt vom Tal auf jeden Fall zehnfach!!! Die Gaststube war gut gefüllt, jedoch ist hier so großzügig bestuhlt und aufgedeckt, dass man an seinem Tisch wirklich unter sich ist. Den Service übernimmt der Senior-Chef Christian selbst, der alles top im Griff hat – man fühlt sich bestens beraten und betreut. Der Gast hat jederzeit die volle Aufmerksamkeit und kann, wie bei uns die speziellen Essenswünsche perfekt umsetzen. Die Atmosphäre sehr familiär – Christian war jederzeit für spannende Gespräche zu haben, beantwortete sämtliche Fragen zum Essen, zum Haus und zu den Örtlichkeiten. Er ist mit Leib und Seele dabei, steht voll hinter dem, was er macht. Kurzum, wir haben uns richtig wohl gefühlt! Zum Wichtigsten: dem Essen selbst! Wow – wir waren zu dritt beim Abend- und Mittagessen. Jedes probierte Gericht können wir absolut und zu 100% weiterempfehlen… Die Speisekarte ist liebevoll gestaltet und überschaubar – trotzdem findet definitiv jeder etwas passendes (auch Vegetarier). Für besondere Wünsche (z.B. vegan, usw.) ist die Küche jederzeit offen und man bekommt sogar noch individuelle Vorschläge… Das ist durchaus nicht selbstverständlich und für Leute mit „speziellen“ Essenswünschen – wie bei uns - wirklich sehr angenehm… Sämtliche Speisen werden mit regionalen Produkten zubereitet, und v.a. wird auch auf saisonale Besonderheiten (z.b: Esskastanien, Maronen, usw.) geachtet. Folgende Gerichte haben wir während unseres Aufenthalts probiert. Ohne Ausnahme können wir alle uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen:

hausgemachtes Brot mit verschiedenen Sorten Butter und Öl (Vorspeise) Kürbis-Ravioli (Vorspeise) Hausgemachte Trüffelpasta mit Maronen, Kohlsprossen & Kastanienschaum Kräutersalat mit Bergkäse Wiener Schnitzel vom Bioschwein, mit buntem Salat und hausgemachten Preiselbeeren mit Erdäpfel Bergkasknödel mit brauner Butter, jungem Spinat, Parmesan & buntem Salat Rote-Bete-Risotto, Trüffeljus und marinierte Kräuter Apfelstrudel mit Vanillesoße, Sahne und Eis Topfen-Nougatknödel mit Brombeereis, Karamell-Orangensauce

Die Preise sind natürlich gehoben, für diese Leistung aber mehr als angemessen! 5 Sterne für das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis!!

Alles in allem: wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder – vielen Dank für den tollen Aufenthalt bei euch :-) Danke noch einmal für die schöne Zusammenarbeit und dass wir die Schlittenbau-Aktion vor Ort so unkompliziert...

Found this Gasthof from reviews both on TripAdvisor and Google Maps. Saw the reviews and was surprised by how well people rated it; we had to go and see for ourselves, and let me tell you, it was fabulous!||A very cosy and calm family restaurant (we didn't stay at the Gasthof itself) offering great views over the valley below. Unfortunately, it was foggy when we were there, so we didn't get to see much.||In my opinion, if the view is great and food bad, then there is no point going, because then a restaurant has failed at its primary goal. This one was an amazing all rounder! Spectacular views, sublime food and fantastic service!||All of the food (incl. tea, water, etc.) was locally sourced and/or organic. The home-baked bread was served with butter (was really from a local farmer), a potato-cheese pâté (or paste) tasting similarly to Slovak bryndza. The soups were great (the portions could be larger), and for main course we had Wiener schnitzel with potatoes (not fries), and both were just spectacular.||Oh, and the service was absolutely fantastic. |Perhaps the prices could be a tad bit lower.||Overall, an amazing experience:...
