The menu is a delightful exploration of Japanese comfort food.
**Tonkotsu Ramen This is why you come. The broth was deeply flavorful, milky, and rich with porky goodness, having clearly been simmered for hours. The chashu pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the ajitama (marinated soft-boiled egg) was perfect with its gooey, savory yolk. The noodles had a great firm bite. Takoyaki: These fried octopus balls were fantastic. They arrived piping hot with a crispy exterior giving way to a soft, fluffy center filled with generous pieces of octopus. The drizzle of okonomiyaki sauce, Japanese mayo, and bonito flakes was classic and delicious. Gyoza: Solidly executed. They had a crispy, golden-brown sear on one side and a juicy pork and vegetable filling. A great starter to share. The chicken karaage was good but not great. The pieces were a tad over-fried, making some bits drier than ideal. The flavor was there, but it needed a more juicy interior.
The service matched the vibe—fast, friendly, and efficient. Our server, Kenji, was helpful in explaining dishes and checked on us regularly without being intrusive. Our food arrived remarkably quickly, especially given how busy they were on a Saturday night. Water glasses were kept full, which is always a plus.
Yatai nails the aesthetic it's going for. The interior is designed to mimic a cluster of street food stalls, with rustic wood, red lanterns, and Japanese posters adorning the walls. The energy is high and the atmosphere is fun. However, be warned: the concrete floors and tight seating mean the noise level is significant. This is a great spot for a group of friends but a challenging place for a first date or anyone hoping for a quiet meal. The tables are also quite close together, so you might feel a bit cramped.
This isn't cheap fast food, but the prices are fair for the quality and portion sizes. Our meal, including two ramen bowls and three shared small plates, came to about $35 per person before tip. You're paying for authentic, well-prepared food and a unique experience, which feels justified.
Yatai excels at its core mission: bringing the spirit and flavor of Japanese yatai stalls to the city. It's a must-visit for ramen enthusiasts and anyone looking for a fun, social dining experience.
The excellent Tonkotsu Ramen, lively atmosphere, and quick service. The high noise levels and potential for a wait during peak hours.
They don't take reservations for small parties, so expect a wait on weekends—but it's...
Read moreI went to the new location a few days ago and they absolutely deserve more hype! I've been to the old yatai couple times before, and I have to say, their interior and food have improved immensely. The interior is beautiful and the overview of the city at night gave a surreal experience from the top floor. We ordered a lot but it didn't take much time. We ordered their Tantanmen ramen, sizzling seafood platter and bbq chicken rice bowl. The Tantanmen ramen was a bit bland but rich and pairing with the sizzling seafood was immaculate. Sadly the potion of ramen has downsized but it had sides with it like fried chicken, which was great. The seafood was delicious, smoky and perfectly charred. The rice bowl was absolutely delicious though, the fried rice was really good, I haven't usually had fried rice this good in rajshahi. It was perfectly seasoned and topping it with the bbq chicken and vegetables were insane, got me craving for it again now. But I'd say the main stars of the dishes were the pancakes and matchamisu, the desserts! The pancakes live up to the hype, they were deliciously sweet and airy with the cream, might be too sweet for some people, but was perfect for me. The matchamisu was a literal dream, perfectly sweet and the mascarpone gave it a delicate and sweet crunch, the matcha also paired really well with it. Sadly the brownie wasn't available. I also loved their mint lemonade drink, but the pineapple chiller drink was pretty underwhelming. They have higher price point but as it's a fine dining restaurant, I think it was pretty worth it. It's perfect for date nights, dinner dates, family dinners or a night out with friends on a splurge. Their staffs were kind of inexperienced at first but very kind and polite and gave great service. Only issue we faced was the location, they didn't put a sign outside yet, so it took a long while to find it. Other than this, I'll...

They took around 45 mins to deliver the ramen & a Bento box which my friend ordered. 45 mins is quite a lot of time, I think they should let their customers know beforehand about this. The ramen had noodles, chicken, corn, half of a boiled egg & I think spring onion. The soup of the ramen was a bit spicy & flavourful, liked it. The chicken was well-cooked, but I think it was lacking a bit in terms of quantity. The sweet taste of the corn was complimenting the spicy taste of the soup nicely. Unless you're a big eater like me, the ramen is enough for one person. The rice of the teriyaki rice bowl was overcooked, bland. It wasn't dry at all, very disappointed in this case. But the chicken was really good. It was well-cooked & the sauce that was used on it made the chicken taste 10x better, absolutely loved it. If there's any way to order just chicken, I would definitely suggest you to try it. But with the rice bowl, sadly it's not worth it.
