Little Arches is a perfect microcosm of Barbados. It may be a little tired, but the people welcome you as one of their own, and not as a tourist, and that makes you feel very special.
Kay and I stayed in Room 3, Petit Mustique, which overlooks the Koi pool and has an ocean view. It is split into 2 levels with the en:suite and bed on the higher level and the balcony view on the lower level. Even though you are right at the front of the hotel and the entrance door is near to Reception it still felt private enough for us as we sat in front of the open patio doors with the sea in full view. If I'm honest we were slightly disappointed with the room initially as the light levels in the top section are a little low and the lower level houses a table and chair set along with cupboard and wardrobe and a small dressing table area, which means most of the area is accounted for, so there is not a lot of space to move around and storage for our 4 cases was limited.
However, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and it had all the amenities needed and its position gave us a sense of independence. The wi-fi was a little erratic, a point I made to Sandra on Reception. Overall I have to say it was good value for money and we grew to accept the quirkiness of the room for what it was. The walk-in shower is large enough as is the single basin bathroom. The maid service was excellent and there were sufficient plugs and charging points.
The pool area was a little jaded and the pool itself is no more than a splash pool for 3 or 4 people. But the service around the pool was again excellent and it served as an outdoor lounge area where there was plenty of seating and sun loungers and this is where the guest tended to sit and chat during the day. Cold hand towels are bought out in the afternoon, there is a small book swap area, free sun cream is on hand, cold drinking water is provided and they will happily bring you down drinks all day long. Part of the area is covered so you can get some sun protection as well as hiding from the showers (liquid sunshine I'm told).
The food and service at the rooftop Cafe Luna is excellent and I have to flag the chicken livers as being excellent but all the food served was fabulous. Mona, Ramon and Antonio gave excellent service. Breakfast in the sun with the hummingbirds always nearby is very special too. I just wish they would get the large fountain working?
Ask at Reception and Andy will take sun loungers and a brolly down to the very close Enterprise beach for you. Pick your spot and everything is put up for you to simply sit down and enjoy. Bikes are also available at the hotel as is a mini-bus to a different part of the island every day with a pick up at 4.00pm. All of these extras make for great customer satisfaction.
Not so the work on the nearby new hotel (or Condo's) and some people might not be too impressed with being quite near to the approach to Grantley Adams airport. Personally neither of these distractions caused any irritation to either of us.
Little Arches is well located for Oistins (you must go to the Fish Market stalls to eat on a Friday evening), Enterprise Beach, walking, running or bicycle riding down Seaside Rd (where the surfers practice) and is on a main bus route going north (known to us affectionately as the Reggae Bus).
Would we book again, well yes, and we have reserved for 2019. Why? The family at Little Arches just made us feel at home and it was all so natural. Could the hotel improve, well yes again, a little more money spent on it could make a big difference, and I know they are constantly looking to improve, which is admirable. Thank you again Sandra and all of the people at Little Arches and in Barbados. We look forward to seeing you...
Read morefirst off allow me to say how much of a gem your waitress Rebecca is . she remembered my order and table preferences by looking at me all with me wearing a mask. I'm a frequent customer but it has been awhile since I last visited . due to the pandemic and such . I however had some free time and decided to pop in since I've been craving the pancakes. the last time I had them I had to change my order because of the overly heavy and dense texture of the pancakes . I put that aside and decided to order them again today. my order came at the table looking just as good as I can remember, however when I cut into them I could tell something was off .once again the pancakes were dense and had a dumpling like texture. after two bites I immediately pushed the plate away and continued my mojito. after 12 mins Rebecca came and asked if everything was okay. I expressed that the pancakes were too heavy, she observed and agreed and took them back to the kitchen to be rectified. she returned, apologized on behalf of the chef and said he'll have them remade.. I told her that he can add just a bit of water and increase the baking powder since I can obviously tell the ratio of flour to baking powder was off. the pancakes came out a second time , this time somewhat thinner abut just as raw and dough like , to be very honest I was famished and did not want to embarrass anyone sending the food back twice with other persons in the restaurant and by this time it was past 2pm. I ate them but asked Rebecca to get me the chef so we can hash out a few tips regarding how to get the texture of his pancakes back to its original state. I waited for 15 mins and no one came. I approached the front of house staff a day asked what happened and was told he's in a meeting . I am very much disappointed and disgruntled by this . pancakes aren't hard to make and if your paying customer would like to have a friendly convo about what might be wrong i think some effort should have been made after you messed the order up twice. needless to say I would not b buying $30 pancakes...
Read moreDisappointing Service Despite Great Food & Ambience
My sister and I dined at Café Luna on March 25, 2025, and while the food and ambience were excellent, our experience was overshadowed by the unprofessional behavior of the manager, Damien.
We had made a reservation in advance, but upon arrival, as the hostess was seating us, Damien rushed over and—without even checking—questioned whether we had a reservation in the most dismissive tone. His attitude was rude and unwelcoming, which was completely unnecessary. It’s disappointing to feel that local Caribbean patrons are not given the same level of hospitality as European visitors.
When we requested a table that wasn’t in direct sunlight, he curtly informed us that there was only one option and that we should "get used to" the sun. This lack of consideration set a negative tone for the evening.
On a positive note, our servers, Adam and Imani, were polite, though they never once smiled, which added to the overall lack of warmth in the service.
It’s a shame because Café Luna has a beautiful setting and delicious food, but the service—especially at the management level—needs serious improvement. Hospitality should be extended to all guests, not just a select few.
Would I return? Possibly, for the food. But only if there’s a noticeable change in attitude towards patrons that aren’t...
