De Red Snapper Bar&Grill — Restaurant in Oistins

We visited Oistens earlier in the day when the days catch was being processed and scoped out a few possibilities before deciding to come back here for dinner on Saturday night. Friday's in Oistens can be a bit of a zoo. It is still pretty spirited and busy on Saturday but you may actually be able to find parking.

No white table cloths here. You will be eating at picnic tables using plastic utensils but you are only a stone throw from spirited dominoes games and a few local merchants. Take your sense of adventure and leave your stuffed shirt at home. This is dining out, local style!

While the presentation isn't much (clam shell takeout containers) the food itself was excellent. I had the swordfish grilled while others had the ever popular flying fish and mahi-mahi. Given the rudimentary setup it is surprising how well the fish turned out.

Other reviewers have complained about shifting pricing but we did not experience that. In fact, the service was excellent including quickly relocating us under shelter when a typical Caribbean shower made...

We have been in Barbados for a week and have dined at different restaurants of all levels. On our last day, my significant other and I agreed that we would return to our favorite, De Red Snapper in Oistens. First, this is no frills. Our order was taken by the most pleasant woman at the window among a row of shack-like restaurants and the seating is comprised of picnic tables. But this is what the Bajans do and it’s where scores congregate on most evenings. We ordered grilled and blackened whole red snapper. This comes with a choice of sides (we chose plantains, grilled breadfruit and slaw). The flavors are beyond words and I’m sure I will crave this once I return to Massachusetts. Some brief advice. Avoid the Friday Oisten fish fry. It is a sight but crowded and long lines. Never eat here. The food took an hour to arrive and when it did the waiter added money to the bill attempting to scam us for more money saying that the rum punch cost 20 dollars when it had come an hour after ordering it and it was a glass of ice in a plastic throw away cup - the bill said it was five dollars.
