Mimosas Trattoria presents a compelling dichotomy—a dining establishment where the atmospheric and service elements excel, yet the culinary and mixological offerings fall markedly short of expectations. Situated in a picturesque coastal setting, the restaurant leverages its natural surroundings to provide a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing experience. However, as this review will demonstrate, the quality of the food and beverages fails to match the establishment’s otherwise commendable ambiance and service.
The Flying Fish, a dish that should embody the freshness of the sea and the skill of the kitchen, was notably lacking in both seasoning and what might be colloquially termed "love"—a critical absence of thoughtful preparation and flavor and balance. The failure to properly season the fish suggests either a lack of attention or an underestimation of the diner’s palate.
Conversely, the BBQ Wings were executed well, offering a satisfying contrast in texture and flavor. This inconsistency raises questions about kitchen standards...
The pina colada, a classic tropical cocktail, was the worst ever, encountered...a damning indictment given the drink’s simple yet precise requirements (coconut cream, pineapple, and rum in harmonious balance). A poorly constructed pina colada suggests either a lack of bartending expertise or an indifference to cocktail craftsmanship.
The crashing ocean waves and calming atmosphere serve as partial compensation for the meal’s shortcomings, and Mimosas Trattoria benefits greatly from its scenic locale. Additionally, the service was great...
So, while Mimosas Trattoria excels in atmosphere and service, its food and beverage program requires significant refinement. The kitchen must address inconsistent seasoning and execution, while the bar should revisit fundamental mixology techniques. Until then, the restaurant remains a place where one might visit for the view and the hospitality—but not yet for...
Read moreWe ate here about an hour after checking into our hotel. The food (fish cakes, coconut shrimp, blackened barracuda) was very good. The woman who took our order and brought our plates, Marcella, was gracious and friendly, a wonderful first person to meet in a place you've never been before. Had Marcella been the only person we dealt with, the service rating here would be five stars. But the young woman who brought our check was aggressively, obnoxiously rude. So out-of-the-blue rude I thought she was kidding at first. But no. Now, her problem was specifically with me. Still not sure what I did to set her off. I've seen plenty of online reviews in which a diner rants and raves about terrible service and you can kind of tell from the review that the person writing it is an entitled nitwit who probably had a hard snub coming. Really not the case here. I rarely complain even when there's something to complain about. The young woman in question here was just inexplicably foul. Even the other young women on shift were giving each other doubtful looks as their colleague acted out. She was bad enough that we wouldn't have gone back to Mimosas if you'd paid us, just on principle, which is too bad because we really liked the place otherwise. That said, I'm guessing my experience was unique--as I say, her mysterious problem was specifically with me--so I'm still ready to recommend Mimosas to others. If the catch of the day is barracuda, order it. And if Marcella is on shift, ask if you can sit in her section. ...
Read moreNot sure what all the hype is surrounding this place - we were very disappointed. Visited on a Friday evening just as the rain was stopping. As this is the fish-fry night at Oistins was not expecting a busy restaurant. We had made a booking and as we were looking at the menu outside the security guard told us - 'reservations only - we are full tonight'. As we had a reservation we entered, having been told they were shortly expecting a table of 8 and another one of 14. We had requested an outside table - and although it was a bit damp outside this request was honoured. The view from the terrace over the sea is wonderful - and as far as I am concerned about the only thing the restaurant has going for it. The food was ok. The service was slow, but my husband's plate was cleared before I had finished. Our waitress then came to ask if we wanted dessert whilst I was still eating main course. There were a total of 4 people dining on the terrace and, when I visited the bathroom, could see that the inside was around one third full. So much for - we are fully booked, don't enter without a reservation. The place was lacking in atmosphere and the rush to clear our plates and take dessert orders (we didn't bother with dessert there) is severely off putting. Paid our bill and went to savour the dessert, drinks and atmosphere at Crave down the road -...
