Had a valentines dinner with my partner last night and experienced a lot of hiccups with the restaurant. We have booked the restaurant at 7.30pm of which they have called and informed us that we would be seated outdoors. We were completely fine with it, however when we arrived, our seat was not ready for us. Beyond that, we awkwardly stood in the outdoors area because we were told we had to wait for our seats despite reservation. In the end, we waited for more than half an hour and finally got our table at around 8pm+
Next, my partner and I made our orders but the food took a really long time to come as well. Our soup and drink did come relatively fast but the mains took another half an hour (after our soup and drink came). By the time my partner and I could actually relax and enjoy the food, it was already 9pm+
Despite the unpleasant experience with the restaurant's booking system, some things that did redeem the restaurant were the jovial and polite servers, the good food, as well as the music that was playing on the screen (tho it was a series of breakup/ heartbreak music on valentines day).
We ordered the following (my own review, my partner's review may differ from mine since we have slightly different tastes)
Lobster bisque - a little too salty but otherwise good flavor with a nice chunk of lobster
Summer berries fizz - a pleasant and light refreshing soda
Blackened Tasmanian Salmon Dry Aged for 14 Days - The BEST most tender salmon I've ever had in my life that had subtle sweetness. It was paired with a simple potato salad that I equally enjoyed topped with some juicy and flavorful cherry tomatoes. Definitely a must try.
Carnivore Platter - A little pricey but we got to sample different types of meats from the menu. Overall with exception to the ribeye, all the meats were cooked perfectly as they had a soft tenderness to them. One or two of the sausage selection was a little dry, chicken was delicious and juicy, beef cheek was incredibly tender and the flavor was alright, ribeye was unfortunately a little tough but otherwise also had good flavor. Sauces offered were too strong as they overpowered the flavor of the meats, so we weren't too sure what it was supposed to go with. One had too much alcohol taste in it while the other was too sour. It was a good experience to try a platter of meats on the menu but will not order again as it wasn't anything too exceptional for the price.
Signature Bombe Alaska - the server unfortunately did not manage to light the alcohol on fire (we saw other servers failed to do so to two other tables as well) so he directly poured the alcohol onto the dessert. Because of that, the bottom layer of the biscuit soaked in all the alcohol and got soggy with the strong alcohol which was a pity because the biscuit was actually nice on it's own. But the ice-cream in the middle was very solid and pleasant with the soft and fluffy meringue. Will not order again since it wasn't anything too exceptional for the price (and we didn't get the fire show we expected).
Overall my partner and I did not appreciate the long wait as it dragged our dinner out for far too long. I do appreciate the servers for trying their best and we do not fault them in anyway, however, it was very apparent to my partner and I that they were still inexperienced in handling dinner service (several of them were in the jitters, had to doublecheck the orders with us twice, we could visibly see them getting lost with our food and empty tables around us were all dirty and not cleared up). We do hope the establishment would review these faults and errors to the booking system and restaurant management to better refine their service as we do enjoy their food (compliments...
Read moreI recently celebrated my birthday with my partner at Barossa after a long day at USS. Even though we both ordered from the lesser known âAN AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE 4 - COURSE SET MENUâ, the meal was nothing shy of amazing. The Sanchoku Wagyu Steak Tartar was prepared extremely well with the right blend of flavours between the sea urchin and the beef, the tangy sauce provided a welcoming kick as well. The appetiser course (Queensland Coast Spanner Crab Cake) was amazing as well, especially coming from a person whoâs not very fond of seafood. You could really taste the flavour of the crab meat and the coleslaw served alongside it really helped to elevate the dish. For our mains, we ordered the 350 Days Grain Fed Sanchoku Wagyu Coulette Steak and the Lamb Rump (the lamb chop was not available that day but the server made sure to inform us before ordering). The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) with the right amount of seasoning and the extreme beefy flavour hitting your taste buds, resulting in an amazing melt in your mouth experience. The lamb rump was cooked to a perfect medium and this fatty cut is bound to please any lamb lovers, but I do believe that the lamb chop would have made it an even better experience but no complaints here. Even though the nosiette kelp potatoes were initially not served alongside the two main courses, servers and the kitchen staffs quickly rectified the issue and we had two delicious bowls of potatoes on our table in no time. To wrap up our wonderful meal was none other than the Ispahan Pavlova and sticky date pudding. Both desserts were great as well and the dessert portions were no joke, guess they really wanted to make sure you werenât leaving with a half-filled stomach. The Ispahan Pavlova was my personal favourite as Iâm a huge berry fan, but if you have a sweet tooth, the sweet delectable caramel flavour from the date pudding will surely satisfy you. Aside from the wonderful meal prepared by the talented kitchen staffs, the service by the waiting staffs were top notch too. The front of house team surprised our table with a complimentary tiramisu birthday cake and a very thoughtful birthday song. Special shout out to Lee, Anne, Leah, Mike, and Sherilyn for the birthday song and an extra thank you to both Lee and Anne for serving us on this special day. It is only my second time visiting Barossa and I can guarantee it wonât be my last anytime soon. For anyone whoâs looking to celebrate any special occasions, Barossa will definitely make your day and allow you to embark on a wonderful culinary journey, leaving you hungry for more.
Cheers, Nick & Serena, the customers with the two...
Read moreThe evening air was soft and breezy as my wife and I settled into our waterfront table at Barossa Steak & Grill. With open-air seating and a clear view of the water, the setting felt effortlessârelaxed yet just refined enough to feel like a proper evening out.
We started with the lobster bisque, served hot and wonderfully aromatic. It had a rich, oceanic flavour, though a touch heavy on the salt for our taste. Thankfully, the soft bread roll on the side mellowed it out.
For mains, we decided to share both the grass-fed beef tenderloin and the lamb saddle chop. The beef was cooked well and presented beautifullyâtender for sure, but we both felt it couldâve used a bit more seasoning. A salt shaker on the table wouldâve come in handy. The lamb, on the other hand, was pleasantly tender and sliced for easy sharing, paired with a jus that really brought the dish together.
We added two sides to round things out: truffle fries, crispy and comforting with a dusting of parmesan and light truffle aroma; and grilled asparagus, lightly charred and topped with a silky hollandaise, a surprising highlight thanks to its balance of richness and spice.
Our drinks were simple but satisfyingâginger ale for some fizz and refreshment, and a smooth glass of red wine that paired nicely with both meats.
The service was a standout. Attentive, warm, and genuinely friendly staff made the evening feel seamless and enjoyable, even where the food wasnât quite perfect.
All in all, it was a leisurely dinner made memorable not just by the view or the food, but by the company and the care behind the experienceâa charming spot for a low-key date night...
