Bar Stark — Restaurant in Antwerp

Popular place in/near the park “Rivierenhof”. Walking crowd, locals and passing bikers like to flock here for their coffee and sugar needs. It has a lot of things going for it. The cake/ Pastry selection is classic and nice. They have some nice vegan options too. They do not serve off the menu-items, so you pick from what is baked that day. On colder days it can get crowded, but when the sun is out, you’re in luck. Bar Stark has an amazing outdoor seating area. People don’t tend to stay very long (apart from the working/laptop people) so it’s worth waiting for a bit for a spot inside to open up. It’s mostly self service so I can’t score “service” high, although the staff is friendly and fun. I dislike the fact that you have to squeeze through a narrow corridor to reach the outside seating in winter. But that is a structural issue I can’t blame them for, obviously. Lots of green space outside the bar area. One soup a day (4,5 € includes 2 pieces of bread). They make ice popsicles (3€) they call them Moon Pops and give them names like Mighty Mango (Mango and lemon), Outrageous Carrot (Oranges and carrot) also saw one strawberry and mint and I think banana and coco's. We komen hier wel vaker omdat het gezellig vertoeven is in de grote tuin en ook binnen heerst er een ontspannen sfeer. Een koffie met een lekker stuk gebak, heerlijk. De wachtrij aan de kassa is echter demotiverend om snel een koffie 'on the go' te gaan drinken, hoewel het vandaag een geoliede machine was achter de bar. Vandaag echter helaas een klein dieptepunt aangezien er gewone melk in de latte gegaan is ipv de gevraagde havermelk. Mijn borstgevoede baby'tje heeft een koemelkallergie en ondanks ze aan de bar bij mijn 'klacht' beweerden dat het havermelk was, zweer ik intussen dat het gewone melk is geweest aangezien ik intussen een krijsende baby thuis heb. Fair is fair, ik heb een nieuwe koffie gehad mét havermelk zonder dat ik opnieuw moest betalen (wou dat nu met alle plezier wel doen) maar weer een avond met een ongelukkige baby kunnen we echt wel missen als kiespijn dus ik ben momenteel redelijk gefrustreerd eerlijk gezegd aangezien ik wel degelijk heel hard mijn best doe om koemelkvrij te eten en mijn baby tevreden te krijgen. Alleszins mag dit eigenlijk echt niet gebeuren; dit is nu een 'banale' allergie (zo banaal vinden we dit na een aantal weken niet meer en ook voor onze baby erg zielig dat ze zo afziet met momenten) maar sommige intoleranties zijn vele gevaarlijker ...
