Brasserie royale — Restaurant in Brussels

CASH ONLY keep that in mind cause we didn't know! we had to walk about 17 minutes away from the restaurant to get cash lol also keep in mind that this area has no ATMs you will prob going to walk to the nearest bank to get that cash.

now we go to the review after this above disclaimer.

Cute little restaurant right outside the Notre dame de laeken chuch this is a super charming local restaurant. theres sitting outside by the sidewalk and you have a nice view of the church grounds.

The parking here is easy t ok find since the church is right across from us and they also have parking available.

Be aware that the wait staff does not speak english so get that French going when you come here.

They have some amazing selection of beers, I found that here in belgium beer is a serious thing and you need to appreciate it. they have all types for all kinds of drinkers, even I was able to find a beer for myself.

Make sure to come here with time cause the service although the staff is friendly and nice they are in European time lol very laid back and not in a hurry. there is absolutely no sense of urgency, here you will come, sit enjoy a beer and a meal and not look at the watch.

I was super surprised that the food came out super quick though.

now to the food.

DRINK: MORT SUBITE - lovely cherry lambic, I am not a huge beer drinker so having the chance to have these cherry lambics here are so amazing, they are extremely rare in the USA so if you are not a huge beer drinker this will hit the spot and be as cheap as beer.

FOOD:

BREAD AND BUTTER BASKET- I love that every restaurant here brings some bread and butter after the order, the bread is French baguette style and tastes amazingly fresh.

SHRIMP CROQUETTE- this is somewhat a national dish appetizer, pretty much every restaurant in the area has this on the menu, I had one of these everywhere I went o far and the croquette here was not disappointing at all, it was pretty good. I would not say that it was the best tasting ever but it was ok and came with a balsamic sprinkle on it. you can go without it to be honest.

SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE - the past came with the right amount of sauce, the pasta itself was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing, I do appreciate the fact that they brought out a serving of parmesan without me asking for it like I usually have to back home in the USA when I order a pasta dish made my heart warm and fuzzy. this was a great dish and the serving was more than enough for one person to eat and feel full.

this is definitely the right spot if you want to feel like the locals, there are occasional excursions to the church and they end up eating here, but in the end of the day this is a very unique experience.

We visited this restaurant on Sunday with a group of 4 adults and a small child. The first thing we recognize was the overwhelming kindness of the employees. They acted super friendly with the child and helped us with the menu. During the waiting time they brought us peanuts and cheese. The waiting time was totally fine and the food was delicious. One person ate salmon with vegetables and the fish was fresh and the portion big. But all the other foods with fries and noodles were tasty too. The prices are more then fair. I can recommend this pretty place with friendly staff...

After walking for about an hour to see the thinker in the cemetery, I thought I would find a place with breakfast along the way. Although there were many places selling coffee, they sold nothing else (food wise, they sold beer). Furthermore, this one was actually nice to sit at. They had some croissants, not to big of a selection to have with coffee but more than nothing. Friendly staff.
