Salons Saint Germain — Restaurant in Diksmuide

We were invited for the brunch at the Salons Saint Germain and we were told to expect something special...

Well... They did not disappoint. The Salons Saint Germain take up a large hall with two separate smaller rooms. I believe the capacity is around 5-600 people...

The food service starts with a small little amuse gueule... very nice... This is followed by a brief explanation as to the formula and how things work.

The first food dish you receive is a lobster dish which is brought to the table.

From then on, the food is served buffet style, but with the very pleasant detail that you walk up to a large table and you pick your own plate and take that to your table. You do not ladle food onto your plate...

The choice is enormous, ranging from foie gras, to fish, to tartars, tuna, salmon, oysters, ... as soon as you pick up a plate, they replace it with a new one.... despite the high number of people, there is rarely a line...

The selection of soup was tomato + cream and Bouillabaise... Delicious...

The main courses were sea bass, pheasant, deer, cod and filet pur steak... The cod was absolutely delicious...

All this is then followed with a very elaborate dessert selection... chocolates, cookies, crème brulée, panna cotta...

Wine, beer, soft drinks, juices, water are all included in the meal...

We were helped enormously by Jos, who was always at the ready with a bottle of white or red, and with tons of advice on wine in general... and by Xenia, who helped us with everything else... She was terrific...

This was an incredible experience and we look forward to...

Het was de eerste keer dat ik hier op zondag van het lunchbuffet heb mogen genieten. Bij het binnen komen werden we door het personeel naar onze tafel begeleid. We waren met een groep van 20 personen en zaten, zoals zovelen, aan een gigantische ovale tafel.

We kregen een lekkere amuse en een glaasje cava. Voor de kinderen was er fruitsap en een zakje chips. Iemand kwam ons uitleggen hoe het concept in elkaar zit. Na de amuse werd aan tafel een halve kreeft geserveerd, daarna konden we aan het koud buffet bordjes met klaargemaakte voorgerechten halen. Deze bordjes waren stuk voor stuk kunstwerkjes en overheerlijk. Voor de liefhebbers was er ook tomatensoep met balletjes.

Om half 2 werd het warm buffet geopend. Er was een ruime keuze aan vis en vlees, allemaal zeer verrukkelijk. Tijdens het eten werd de wijn continu bijgevuld. Mijn vriend heeft de bodem van zijn glas niet gezien... Indien je iets anders wil drinken kan je dit gewoon vragen. Er loopt voldoende personeel rond. Voor de kinderen was er een apart buffet met onder andere gourmethamburgertjes en kaaskroketten.

Het dessertenbuffet was volgens hetzelfde principe als de voorgerechten. Je kon verschillende bordjes nemen of je kon een ijsje laten scheppen. Er was ook hier keuze uit zeker 10 verschillende nagerechten. De bediening was overigens top! Ik vind het jammer dat ik geen foto's nam van al deze lekkere gerechten.
