Let’s first start positively: the food was ok.
However, I had a bad experience at this place. I was the unfortunate innocent customer, who got welcomed by a too easy passive-agressive projection of probable underlying frustration (I guess) of one of the employees.
Let me detail: when entering, I was welcomed (simple hello, without any smile) by one of the employees. No complaint about that, he did his job, and might have been tired at that moment. Did the strict minimum of customer care, which is ok.
As on the menu list there was a section of “bereide gerechten”= prepared plates, I gently and kindly, without any underlying feeling, asked if the “vol-au vent” which was mentioned included the fries or not. Indeed, an innocent question, as in different frituren/friteries I’ve been before, this plate is served on a plate with fries included. The employee gave an unclear answer so I kindly repeated the question to have a clear answer as to not receive double amount of fries (in my plate and beside my plate). I got the answer that fries are a separate plate, and happy having cleared that out, I proceeded to order both the vol-au-vent and the fries. However, at that moment, came another employee out of the kitchen (I suppose), probably having heard the conversation. I don’t even remember if he greeted me or not (he might have done it but not sure…). First thing I remember he said, was, “for 5 euro 50 (the price of the vol-au-vent plate), don’t expect to get fries included”. As I’m quite good at feeling into people, I got instantly so confused about the passive-agressive undertone and negative charge of his phrase. I stood there in the moment, not knowing how to react. He then proceeded to repeat this statement, as if I was complaining about the price (which I didn’t).
I sat at the table pondering why I got such a passive agressive welcome, and imagined that the employee must have had some customers before who probably complained about the price being too high for the vol-au-vent?
Then the fries came. So, the quantity and taste of fries was ok (despite them being a bit too greasy: I managed to scrape off a little lump of white grease of my palate at the end of my meal).
But then the vol-au-vent came, and that’s were a lot became clear for me: The vol-au-vent, however tasty, came in a tiny plastic box, the quantity was very little (I wouldn’t have posted this if the customer care was ok, because I honestly prefer quality over quantity and the vol-au-vent was tasty). But now things were more obvious: indeed, 5 euro 50 is a bit much for this little quantity of vol-au-vent, thus I can imagine people having complained about it. (Furthermore, just for info since I am typing this, there was a little hair in my vol-au-vent, which doesn’t disturbed me that much, as I can understand this is not 100% avoidable when preparing plates) In conclusion, I was the unlucky innocent customer who got the free passive agressive projection of frustration from one of the employees. This really disturbed me as it came out of nowhere and it is the reason why I feel the need to share this experience.
IN CONCLUSION:
So if you don’t care about customer treatment and just want to fill your belly (food is ok), it is a fast and easy option.
But if you don’t want to take the risk to encounter some unprofessional and inadequate behaviour. If you value customer care, I recommend to AVOID THIS PLACE.
