We booked a table here for our last night at our stay at Golden Village. We were happy with the service which was friendly, attentive and efficient. However, we were so disappointed with the quality of the food. My wife and I opted for the menu of the month, and our daughter chose the breaded fish. The fish was particularly smelly (not fresh), and our daughter did not want to eat any. My wife and I tried her fish and it was not fresh and it had a really wierd taste. My wife was concerned she may have stomach issues after. The frites on her plate tasted like it was from frozen and cooked in the oven. Most of the food stayed on the plate. Our starters- my wife had croquettes which were fairly good. I had the provolone cheese with cherry tomatoes. My dish wasn’t pleasant- and the tomatoes were likely from tins. It was very bland and acidic. I had the lamb burger- it was average. No more no less. I ate it, as I was very hungry. The frites were better than our daughters frites. My wife had mushroom risotto. It did not taste like it was cooked freshly tonight. It wasn’t pleasant. She had two mouthfuls of food only, and nearly a full plate of risotto went back. For dessert my wife had the mascarpone on biscuit with coulis, which seemed ok- but it wasn’t freshly made here, and lacked mascarpone. I substituted the dessert to have one of my favourite desserts- pain perdu. I wish I hadn’t. As usual presentation appeared good. But the pain (bread) was way too present, not perdu (lost)! Normally the bread must be soaked for 10 minutes then fried. Unfortunately it had not been soaked. A thick white slice of bread was fried without soaking and it was like normal bread throughout apart from the outer edges. It had raw apple on top and a scoop of vanilla ice cream that stayed on top and didn’t melt as the apple was cold and the dish wasn’t prepared properly. It was devastating to see one of my favourite desserts be neglected like that. I couldn’t eat it. When we got the bill I told the lady at the bar how bad the food was, and she kindly took 15 euros off the bill for our daughters fish dish, but coming to nearly 100 euros, for a meal that was so bad, was a real let down. It just so happens that it was for my wife’s 40th birthday and our last night here. Overall the service was good. But the restaurant tonight was truly let down by incompetent chefs who have no right to touch food in this place. We enjoyed our stay at the resort, but we won’t come to this...
Read moreThe food was amazing but the service was below par. When we arrived we were asked where we’d like to sit so we said on the terrace. There were plenty of tables available but all needed cleaning. We were shown a table and out order was taken and then a waitress proceeded to clean the table and clean the cutlery that had just been placed down. We chose the 3 course menu. The choice was good but they had ran out of one starter which most of us wanted! The service was very slow - our main came out before our starters were cleared and we had to help to ‘clear’ up! After we had finished our main courses we waited an hour before asking where our deserts were. We had noticed at this point that the chiefs had been closing down the kitchen! When we commented to a server he just slapped his head and walked off. Another 20mins waiting we decided to walk to the counter to pay as it was 11pm at this point and none of the servers were aware that we hadn’t received our desserts. The head waiter came at this point and we explained to him what had happened (he was the one to take the order in the first place) he proceeded to ask if we wanted to take the dessert with us. No we didn’t as we weren’t staying in the hotel and how could be take sobert back to our accommodation!! After deliberating he said he would only charge us for the 2 course menu and give us our drinks free as a good will gesture. Overall the food was extremely good but the servers didn’t know what was happening and we had 3 different ones so there was obviously a lot of...
Read moreWe had 4 breakfasts and dinners here because we were staying in the Golden Lakes Hotel.
The food is fine. Below I will provide two examples.
Breakfast - it's a continental buffet but the variety is not huge. One morning we came a bit later (0900) and the food was cold. The other times we were coming at the start of breakfast (0730) and it was much better. I think there is place for improvement here.
For one dinner we ordered a burger and asked the meat to be cooked at medium rare, the waiter told us that it's pre-cooked and this is not possible. The other evening we ordered a steak and that was possible to get medium rare (unfortunately it was more toward well done).
The services deserves 5 starts, the staff is very friendly and nice.
Atmosphere is good, the terrace has ample of space, the inside seating area is nice too. For the price I would have appreciated a nicer table setting with table cloth, better quality napkins.
To conclude, I think the restaurant has potential but they are just using the situation that people stay at the hotel and there are not many...
