Tommenmolen — Restaurant in Grimbergen

My husband and I were staying in Grimbergen for the recent dedication of a WWII memorial plaque at the airfield. Exhausted one evening, we decided to find somewhere to eat but of course we did not have reservations. We followed the gps down this narrow path, met some cows munching in the sudden downpour and finally located the restaurant. We had thought patio but the weather! The manager offered us a table as long as we could be finished by 7 pm. Hungry as we were I didn’t think that would be a problem. The servers were very helpful with the menu since we don’t speak Dutch and soon we were enjoying our meals. Trout almandine for me and seafood stew (not sure the exact name) for him. Frittes of course-they were perfect! Both meals were delicious and we were in and out before they had to turn the table! The building is beautiful and historic as is much of Belgium. It's not my first time in Belgium but, honestly, I cannot say I had a restaurant experience like this before. Beautiful location with an old mill (and, unfortunately, we did't have the chance to come for lunch: the outdoor should be wonderful). Top quality food (and a great chef) and quite good quality/price ratio. Special mention for the service: nowadays it's becoming harder and harder to find such kind of attention. Absolutely delicious Belgian classics in a beautiful setting!

We had an amazing lunch at Tommenmolen. The mussels were fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked — served with a tasty broth and mashed potatoes on the side. The real surprise was the traditional sausages with cherry sauce – a unique and flavorful combination of sweet and savory that works incredibly well.
