La Paillote Africaine — Restaurant in Huy

My husband and I were surprised to find such a unique restaurant so close to home. The first time we went, we challenged one another to only order things which we've never had before.

We had fried caterpillars, crocodile, mountain goat and African vegetables. The caterpillars were quite a challenge to eat as we're not very adventurous diners but we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful flavor.

We've already been back for more and were lucky enough to arrive on a tasting buffet night where they serve many, many dishes and you can eat your fill for 20 €.

Tantine Wivine is a Congolese woman who opened this restaurant with her Belgian husband. She runs the kitchen and he runs the dining area so the atmosphere is incredibly familial. The restaurant is located on a bluff above the city of Huy so the view is spectacular as well.

Ca fait des années que nous passons devant la Paillote Africaine et nous avons décidé de tester car nous étions intrigués. Il s’agit d’un couple : Wivine s’attele aux fourneaux pendant que son mari s’occupe du service en salle. Ils sont tous les deux très sympa et aux petits soins. Il y a différentes viandes (dont du crocodile pour ceux qui aimeraient essayer), trois types de sauces (moambe, arachide et grain de courge) et 3 accompagnements : des feuilles de manioc, du riz et des bananes plantain. Le plat était très bon, bien assaisonné et copieux. Nous avons trouvé que l’ambiance était conviviale et la vue sur la ville de Huy est très belle (petit plus sympa). Très bonne expérience, nous recommandons !
