Nice quite n clean place. We could taste few of the chocolates because all of them were packed, so as to decide which one to pick! One thing really disappointed me was that they gave offers(get 2 +1 free) on chocolate boxes which were about to expire in this month. In fact, we picked up n finalized 3 boxes but the date of expiry on them were 01/09/2019. Thank god we noticed it. I can understand ur marketing technique, to remove old ones n fill d new ones n new products/launch. But, then why not just make it 2+2 free..Or get 3 +1 small one.. kind offers. I hope d chocolates we tasted( kept for testing) were good ones.

At the outskirsts of Brussels, hidden from the world, a rare yet enticing chocolate shop divulges a secretive Neuhaus outlet store. A myriad of chocolates are stacked in a pile of cardboard boxes , allowing you to sample as many flavors as you like. Strolling through the shop you are showered with monstrous 2+1 deals, luring you to bite more than one can chew. But why resisting the topnotch products? Before long, I eagerly succumb and overindulge to my fondness for chocolate. Repentance is just lurking around the corner, I hear myself thinking out loud while feasting on just another round of free chocolates!

One of the best places to visit in Bruxelles. Go there if you have enough place in your luggage for 3 boxes of chocolate, 1kg/piece. Of course, in order to select the types of pralines to buy, you need to taste them all. Better than wine tasting! :-) There are other offers of the type 2+1, as well, but the one with 3 kg at the price of 68 euros is the best, if you value more the content than the box. Each box contains the same type of pralines. The place is also reachable by metro, it is at the end of the line 5 (Erasmus station). I will surely get back there when in Bruxelles.

A small outlet shop next to the Neuhaus chocolate factory. They sell close to due date items in original packaging (100-250g) with 30% reduction, bulk items in cardboard box or plastic bag (1kg), and also normal due date varieties at full price. There are some unusual, rare to find items that are for other markets. You can also find boxes of other brands like Cornet. It can be reached with a long trip with a metro and 10 min walk, or a 30-40 min bike ride from the centre.

Summary: Although it is not bad, after coming here for several years (we pop in after visiting a nearby playground), I always come to the same conclusion. I find that for an outlet shop the prices are too high, for a factory shop it misses showing production and history, an for a tourist visit it is too remote and far away. I rather recommend the Godiva Outlet (similar price and marketing target, but closer to the centre), and next to it the Chocolate Museum for history and background knowledge. If you want to see chocolate production, one of the best in Europe is Zottner in Riegersburg, Austria where they show the whole process from cocoa beans to production.

Because the expiry date of chocolate is more related to sensory character (colour, aroma, tastes, consistentcy), it is safe to buy these outlet items. But I find it is still too expensive for what it is. You really need to look to find an occasional outlet item that is more discounted, or items with longer expiry date. For example today they had Chili dark pralinés 1kg cardboard box, expiry in few days, for €12.

The paradox is that such expensive chocolate's main use is to give it as gift, and I wouldn't give such expired items as a gift. Although they are perfectly fine to eat, the optics are not nice when giving it as a gift... Or do you really want to buy 3 boxes of nicely packaged, 100-250g for €75? Or do you want to buy near expiry (on 1 or 2 weeks), 3x 1kg allotin box for €140? All near expiry?

And for my own consumption, I don't think it is worth as the main cost elements are marketing, branding and packaging, this is why it is expensive, not the chocolate itself.

The Neuhaus chocolate itself is still industrial chocolate with 7-10 ingredients, soy lecithin and vanilin and other aromas to mask the base flavour. Maybe a bit better than other lecithin/aroma chocolate you find in a supermarket, but I don't think it is worth the 5x-10x price.

Beside the discoun, the main attraction of the store are tasting of various chocolates. You can eat as much as you want. In my experience 2-3 tastes are optimal, 5 is nearly the limit one can take. Eating more than 5 starts to saturate and feel sick Consider that 1 piece of a praline is around 10-12g, eating 5 pieces is 50g, which is half of a bar of chocolate.

They also sell near expiry pralines in bulk, 1kg for €30, or 3kg for €60, which comes down to the upper tier offers of Leonidas or Lindt, which are very similar in quality and taste. But do you really want 1kg of the same pralinés... Once I bought three boxes for a weekend event for a big group, but then I could have bought so many other things to offer for this price.

If you are just visiting Brussels as a tourist, I would say save the time and rather buy a small box in the centre or the airport (with correct expiry dates), and use the time for something better. I don't think it is worth a whole afternoon to taste 5 pieces of chocolate (50g), and\or to pay €70 instead of €100 for 3 boxes of 250g that can only be used for own consumption.

The store staff is helpful and polite, and help if you have questions. They also have a small ice cream section, €6 for a piece, hand-covered with fun things.

If you have any allergy, gluten, milk, etc. Neuhaus is not a good choice, as even dark varieties always contains milk and other...

I am changing my rating because of a very clear downward trend in supply and price increases. This trend has been really marked for two years. The value for money does not really justify the trip anymore. Lots of chocolate downgrades with a short date that can only be interesting if the price is good. We can clearly find less interesting products than before. Many products can't be tasted before purchase anymore. Little by little, this "factory shop" looks like other shops in the city. Clearly the massive arrival of tourist bus was already a drag. Finding yourself in a small and overcrowded space of people often lacking the most basic education is not a pleasant evolution. This too full of customers does not push down prices. Seeing a customer chew chocolate and spit it out in a box is might be the kind of problem that led to the change of this store that I frequented regularly.
