De Plakker — Restaurant in Veurne

De Plakker is a typical, good Belgian restaurant.

From the outside, it was no more or less attractive than their neighbours but we went there because they were the only ones on Veurne's market square who had a table available. We had steak with fries, Lasagne, a kid's steak and some vegetarian pasta dish. Look, it was all good. Great, in fact, just like I expect from a Belgian restaurant. Hey, sue me, I'm a chauvinist. We're the best cooks in the world, after all. The staff were business-friendly and capable, which suited the general atmosphere.

And, it must be said, we got decently sharp, non-serrated steak knives. So I did not even use my personal knife to cut my steak, which is one of the greatest compliments I can give. (Yes, I carry a decent knife for eating in restaurants. Try it, you'll see why). The bill was a bit steep, though, but on excessive or unexpected. We will come here again, probably, when we're around.

We had dinner there and ordered a really fabulous steak with bearnaise sauce, which came with a small salad and fries, as well as the Chef's Burger... pricey, but well worth it!

Drinks were the exceptional house draft beer (blonde version) - beware, it packs a punch - and a hot chocolate (it was very cold when we visited).

Dessert was the Dame Blanche (icre cream with hot chocolate sauce) - yummy!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at De Plakker, and I must say it was a delightful experience. The food was not only good but exceeded my expectations.
