Helios — Restaurant in Zaventem

Helios is a nice restaurant full of greek flavours and I believe it is a good entry to the world of greek food for foreigners.

I had the Mezze entry and the calamari was delicious, was not a fan of the type of salad (not something that we eat in Greece), tzatziki flavourless, melitzano salata was good and Tamara was not enjoyable.

The kokkinisto had really nice tender lamb and nice manouri to contrast the flavour. However it fell short because it was overpowered by the cinnamon.

I was happy they had retsina but they served it in a wine glass. Traditionally it is in a small glass and you can mix it with soda/coke/sprite. It is in no means a drink that is put in a wine glass but I did not mind.

I think it is good menu and balance of choices but ultimately it feels targeted and designed foreigners and not so...

An excellent find, just a 15 minute walk from the ubiquitous hotel complexes of Brussels Airport, and much more friendly, local, and reasonably priced - with a welcoming smile and convivial atmosphere. The food was well-presented, tasty, and quickly served. The premises were ideal for any season, with an indoor salon, outside dining in good weather, and an undercover terrace for mixed weather. Access for people with limited mobility is good, as is access to the washroom facilities. All are clean and well presented. I would definitely recommend this establishment and will certainly return next time I am in the Brussels...

We hadden er gereserveerd op vrijdagavond 20h30 toen we aankwamen was het restaurant zo goed als leeg wat meestal geen goed voorteken is.

Maar we werden aangenaam verrast door de kok, wij hadden een 3 gangen menu besteld via een partnersite en als voorgerecht kozen we de mezze van de chef, als hoofdgerecht de vis mix met kreeft en bij het nagerecht zijn we zelfs niet geraakt omdat onze buikjes al vol zaten van de 2 vorige gerechten.

De mezze was lekker (we hebben hen wel positieve kritiek aangeraden om de calamares in de mezze te vervangen door de zalm in de vis mix omdat je anders met heel veel calamares zit in het voor en hoofdgerecht).

De vis mix was ook zeer lekker alhoewel we twijfelden over de kreeft en de scampi’s die waarschijnlijk diepvries waren, maar nogmaals wel heel smaakvol gebracht, iets taaier vandaar onze twijfel.

De service was zeer goed, heel vriendelijk en wij hebben helemaal niet lang moeten wachten alles kwam vlot en mooi op tijd uit de keuken.

Wij komen hier zeker nog eens terug om meer van de chef zijn keuken...
