Indian foodgasms in Kasane Imagine being in the middle of Africa, having all that touristy gig going on like getting all invested in nature, devote yourself to the bush life, gushing at all the magnificent animals and going into rhapsodies about the brutal and yet devastatingly beautiful world of the animal kingdom. Then, on your way back to your stay, reminiscing about that majestic lion gnawing on the last fleshy remainders of one sorry a** baby giraffe, it’ll happen. You’ll get hungry. And in order to avoid getting hangry you’ll decide to maneuver your humble self to the city and not to stay in your lodge like a douche. You’ll start asking yourself: where to eat?! Kasane isn’t exactly the place that is packed with heaps of restaurants… quite contrary. So you’ll start to skim through your surroundings for an adequate place to indulge a well-deserved dinner. Over the street, opposite to Spar you’ll find a place called Pizza Plus Coffee & Curry. Indian Restaurant in Africa? Leaving you wondering: What kind of sorcery is this?
As soon as the dishes are served answers will be delivered and it’ll be crystal clear: ain’t no sorcery involved… just plain magic. Your taste buds be taking a gourmet trip through India’s finest national establishments. One ticket to Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore and back please. So while your derriere was comfortably planted on that very chair your tongue travelled miles and miles encountering fresh spices, amazing flavours and harmonious dishes and while at it even managed to experience foodgasmic enlightenment in Goa.
All this is possible thanks to the owner Ashok, who will kindly welcome you and make you feel at home instantly in case he is around. Hospitality is written in capital letters at his place and you will be experiencing a little piece of India due to the familiar treatment of these guys. All my praise goes out to Ashok and his fantastic cook team. Never have I tasted more authentic Indian dishes at such a high quality and at totally reasonable prices. You may have noticed the plural form in “authentic Indian dishes”, that’s because we got addicted to this delicious shiva-like food and kept coming back for more. So if you’ll develop the same dependence I have good news for you: the very same restaurant exists in Maun, too. Just opposite of the airport in case you intend to go that route as well. With all the kudos I totally forgot to mention that they also serve tasty breakfast (Indian, continental and British), Pizza & Burgers, loads of vegetarian dishes and a low-fat variety of Indian/Chinese cuisine. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the shadowy beer garden is extremely relaxing and inviting.
So you think: that dude’s rating is a tad exaggerated? Couldn’t be that good. I dare you… I double dare you to go all Namaste in Botswana. You and especially your taste buds won’t regret it.
Would definitely eat there again: 10/10

Read moreWe dined here twice during our stay in Kasane. The first time I ordered pizza but they did not have all the ingredients and I had to change ingredients until I could make up a pizza for which they had all the ingredients. My partner ordered the goat Rogan Josh of which the meat was very tough which made the meal unenjoyable. The bugs was also a huge hassle especially in the evening and I opted for a take away to prevent eating bugs. The lightning at the outside tables are also very poor. My partner also spoke to the owner about the fact that the VAT they are charging is not included in the price on the menu which we only realised when we got the bill. A week later we visited the same restaurant again. I wanted to order the lamb Rogan Josh but was told they do not have stock. I then ordered the beef Rogan Josh and asked the waiter to please ensure that the meat was tender. I got 3 small pieces of meat with bone in which was extremely tough and mostly uneatable. We also noticed that the VAT issue was not attended to at all. I give 3 stars for service only because the waiter really did his best to try to apologize on behalf...
Read moreWe stopped here one evening the summer of 2017,and had one of the most memorable dinners of our 10 day stay in Botswana. I can't vouch for the Pizza or the Coffee, but the Indian family that runs this place certainly makes some of the best Indian I have ever had! Perhaps it was just being in Chobe those days, perhaps it was all the excitement of the experience, but the Lamb dish I has was simply amazing! My own dish was on the mild side, as I requested, Olli and Liz both were more daring and went for hot. Well, apparently they know how to do HOT too! So beware. You better really mean it when you ask for hot! Our entire table of 7 was pleased as could be!
Highly recommended if your staying over near Kasane. Get out of that lodge an...
