deconstructing gastronomy much in the way Bresson wanted to do with cinema, but in a more homespun way (yep). it is akin to the avant-garde intellectual movement of anti-art, Dadaism, shattering the rules and expurging the notion of what we perceive as true art, or, in this case, 'good products/services'.
Pingo's Restaurante has really tried to contradict the modern capitalist society by neglecting the 'supply and demand' economic model and even the hygiene standards. but in the end, did it succeed as a dadaist restaurant?
the last time i visited Pingo's, i was already having an admirable time with my friends, but the place made the day even better. we laughed at it's decoration and how everything in there was off balance. the place felt unique. but while having uncommon elements in it's structure, Pingo's, in the end of the day, is yet another business. it is bound to the market's rules. it may go against everything the other businesses have as absolute trueness, but maybe this type of thing has it's target, it's existing niche.
so did it succeed? ...i dont know.
i am listening to my favorite band, Radiohead, as i write this and i just cannot keep myself from comparing all this anti-capitalist feeling going on in Pingo's experience/philosophy with the band's thoughts and themes. Thom Yorke, the band's frontman, is always talking about how societal patterns can blind you with it's mathematical, yet joyful outcomes and drag you to coldness, therefore transforming you into a cold dead computer. so sometimes we should just lean back and have life our way and just... feel. feel music. feel people. feel life. that's what Pingo's is all about. damn... i'm emotive as i write this. Karma Police from Radiohead is playing on my earphones right now. Thom Yorke is mumbling stuff in my ears "this is what you get (karma)... this is what you get" and "phew, for a minute there... i lost myself... i lost myself". Pingos lost itself. it let itself turn into what it is criticizing, the thing it wants the Karma Police to destroy. do you see where im getting here? anti-capitalism crashing into reality and becoming a part of the market blah blah blah.
wow... this review has not enrolled as i expected. but you know what? that's how life is. real simple and plain. that's the message.
final verdict:...
