This restaurant opened in 1991, and there’s a reason it’s still open and going strong—it’s really, really good! First, the restaurant’s entrance is so inviting. The front is covered with various types of palm trees and tropical plants that make you feel like you are entering into a secret grove in the jungle. There are charming and quirky handmade decorations all over and all the tables are covered with tablecloths with a beach theme, further contributing to the relaxed yet classy feeling. The waiters are very friendly without being too familiar. The menu can be described as Brazilian fusion cuisine, with French and African influences. “Beijupirá” is a type of fish—in English, it is known as a cobia or black bonito. Not surprisingly, the restaurant does a lot of seafood, and does it well (you can get other things too if you’re not into seafood). I’ve wanted to eat here for some time. They have a special plate that changes every year. This year, their special was called “BeijuHibisco”, which was shrimp in a hibiscus sauce served with pineapple rice. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and I’ve never had a sauce quite like this one—it was very delicious. The rice was also cooked perfectly. We washed it down with a few beers and the check (with the tip) came to about $65! Our waiter explained everything about the dish and we didn’t have to wait long either. This place is totally overrated. There was a wait of 40 minutes when we got there. After waiting for 40 minutes, they made us wait for 20 more just to go inside to wait at the bar. When we were finally seated, it took about 10 minutes to someone to come talk to us and take our drink order. They kept asking us about our extra chair, but no one had any useful information about the food. It took about one hour for our food to arrive. When it arrived, it was good, however not worth waiting for over 2 hours between getting to the restaurant and eating it. After this frustrating experience, it took again about 10-15 minutes for someone to come to the table to charge our card. After all of this, we were happy to be out of there. Tento não ser injusto nas minhas avaliações, pois preciso ter em mente que meus gostos não representam o gosto de outras pessoas… Mas não tem como você escrever uma crítica positiva se dei o azar de pedir três pratos e os três estarem muito ruins. A decepção foi grande, pois era um dos restaurantes que eu mais estava ansioso para conhecer. O ambiente realmente é lindo e carregado de elementos decorativos, muita gente procura esse restaurante justamente por isso. Quem vai e não quer pegar fila, precisa chegar cedo pois ele é muito disputado. O atendimento também é ótimo, apesar de as vezes ser até exagerado. A cada segundo o garçom está ali, do seu lado, querendo ajudar em algo. Esses dois pontos salvam o restaurante e é o que levam os turistas até ele… A comida fica em segundo plano, e foi aqui que dei azar. Pedi duas entradas: O Mixira do Mar, que é um mix de polvo, mariscos e camarão com molho e que bem poderia ser apenas um molho de pastel ou de outra massa, que não tinha graça nenhuma. O Queijo Coalho Flambado, outra entrada, foi outra decepção, pois ninguém avisou que vinha uma chama na mesa para que a gente mesmo flambasse um pedaço de queijo cru. Não gostamos da experiência. O saldo mais negativo ficou no prato principal, o clássico Camarão Carmem Miranda… Já tinha experimentado esse prato clássico do litoral nordestino em outros lugares, mas aqui foi totalmente diferente: me senti comendo uma sobremesa, pois parecia um caldo com abacaxi, banana e manga. Os pobres camarões que estavam ali pareciam ter caído por acidente. Infelizmente, e evito dizer isso ao me referir a comida, mas o sabor era horrível. Fui salvo pela creperia que fica na esquina desse lindo restaurante e que matou a minha fome… Repito que a minha experiência e a minha frustração refletem o meu gosto, e que ouvi muitas recomendações positivas sobre o restaurante. Eu não dei sorte… Mesmo arriscando com três pratos e tendo ido visitar com a mente aberta e muita expectativa. Foi uma experiência inesquecível, sem dúvida....
