The Hangout — Restaurant in Mondulkiri

We went their having been recommended that it was the place to go to book a gibbon tour in siema nature reserve. We were not wrong. Calum, an aussie expat who's been there 8 years was keen to organise. We ended up having a fantastic day looking for apes/monkey's. The maximum group size is 6 people to give a better chance. We ended up seeing various troops of monkeys, including the rare gibbons. In addition, we saw giant squirells, hornbills and duques. The tour (just 2 of us) were paired up with two others who had organised through other organisations (Cambodia bird org and samveasna)we paid a fraction of their costs, although they have the option to stay in tents at the base camp. Overall an excellent experience and a chance to see truly wild animals in their own environment unlike the many monkeys at temples etc that are used...

This place offers local and Western food and the day I visited I opted for a chicken schnitzel with chips and a rather rich gravy

There is a chilled out atmosphere here and a mixed crowd of people.

My only gripe was the service. Serving food was ok. But when I went to pay the bill instead of making a priority of giving me my change the staff were more concerned about welcoming new guests.

There seemed to be a confusion about getting some change and bringing to me. It took 10 minutes and they realised I was becoming frustrated.

One thing to learn maybe it's that a guest who has already paid wants to leave. Guests who have not even selected their seats or food or have not paid should not be their first priority when someone is waiting to leave.

After an 18km jungle trek the hospitality here was above and beyond what we needed! I wish we got the lady's name who looked after us because she was an absolute star 🌟. She even let us use a shower in a vacant room in the lodge before we head to our sleeper bus.

Food was great (we received complimentary fresh mango as dessert), beers were cheap and we played a few games of pool on the free table there.

Could not reccomend this place more!
