I have spent 3 weeks in Ratanakiri and tried a number of different restaurants during the first week. The food in most of them is average. The Corner Restaurant is the exception, all their food is excellent and unlike many Cambodian run restaurants the standard is consistent. The Cambodian owner worked in a good Phnom Penh restaurant for a number of years and it shows in the standard of both the food and service. The salads are big, excellent and ridiculously cheap, I tried most of them. The pizzas are very good. The red and green curries are very good but be aware they are a bit fierce. All the Cambodian meals I had were full of flavour and a generous size. The Ratanakiri fillet steak with red wine sauce is juicy and tender and perfectly cooked medium rare. Again it is very cheap but donât be put off by the price, I have paid 2 or 3 times more for poorer quality steak. The red wine is good, light and fresh. The menu is varied with a good vegetarian section, something for everyone. The owner and staff are friendly and speak good English and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
