Was really non impressed with the customer service experienced. Would have given zero stars except that the food was decent (but not value for dollars since the price was higher than average).

Customer service; We arrived and asked to see their menu to see if we wanted to eat there. We were shown the menu, chose to stay and ordered two dishes. Instead of offering us the air conditioned room, or even giving us the option, they sat us outside. After sitting there for a few minutes, I asked the waiter why there was an air conditioned room that was less than 25 percent full and we weren’t given a seat inside the room? Instead of answering the question, he went and got the owner. She had even more deplorable customer service skills. She said that we could sit in the air conditioned room but that it would cost us extra 50 cents!!? I don’t think she should have even bothered saying that as we had already ordered and each dish, mind you, was $6.50 (much higher then the average nice restaurant there in the area; average is 3-4.00)! On top of that, the waiter hadn’t even given us the option initially so that was already an error that was on their customer service part. Lastly, I couldn’t believe that the owner would have the gall to tell me she wanted to charge me 50 cents when the room was not even half full and gave me a cheesy answer like “we reserve the room since it gets really full”- it was already past prime lunch hours at 130 Pm!!:(

She should have, as customer service dictated, apologized for not giving us the option of the air conditioned room, and offered it at no charge at this point as she realized we were a bit upset about the air conditioned room discovery!!

They also got our order wrong. We ordered pad Thai without eggs. It came with eggs so they redid the order. When it came back, it was 1/3 smaller!! (See photo) like they were mad that they had to waste their precious ingredients/ materials to Redo our meal that they should have gotten right the first time round!:(

Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Buyer beware they are overpriced and penny pinching and lack decent or even average customer...

Our recent visit to Khmer Family Restaurant, situated conveniently near the breathtaking Angkor Wat, was anything but memorable. After a morning of exploring the awe-inspiring temples, our guide recommended this restaurant, describing it as a local favorite. But once seated, it quickly became apparent that this was more of a tourist trap than an authentic dining experience.

To begin with, the prices were shockingly high, far above what one would expect to pay in Cambodia. With each dish costing as much as a full meal back in Siem Reap city center, we anticipated something extraordinary. Instead, what we received was mediocre at best. The flavors were lackluster, with dishes that seemed hastily prepared and lacking any real depth or authentic taste. The presentation didn’t help either; the food looked uninspired, devoid of the vibrant colors and textures that Cambodian cuisine is known for.

The restaurant itself felt overly commercial, aimed more at churning through busloads of tourists than offering a genuine culinary experience. It was disappointing to see that such an establishment was recommended by a local guide, but I suppose it’s a convenient stop for tour groups looking for a quick meal.

In hindsight, I’d strongly advise anyone visiting Angkor Wat to skip Khmer Family Restaurant altogether and make the short journey back to Siem Reap. The city center has a plethora of fantastic dining options where you can enjoy authentic Khmer cuisine that’s bursting with flavor—and at a fraction of the price. Dining in Siem Reap would surely complement the wonder of Angkor Wat, rather than detract from it as this disappointing...

4/5 Stars - Delicious Khmer Cuisine with Some Room for Improvement

We recently dined at Khmer Village Restaurant and enjoyed our experience.

Pros:

Delicious, straightforward Khmer dishes Generous portion sizes Fresh and flavorful seafood salad Excellent beef with pineapple dish Amazing fish soup in coconut milk!

Cons:

Average service: staff was attentive but not overly friendly Higher prices compared to similar restaurants in the area

Highlights:

The seafood salad was a standout, with fresh and succulent ingredients. The beef with pineapple was tender and flavorful. The fish soup in coconut milk was rich and aromatic.

Despite some areas for improvement, Khmer Village Restaurant's delicious cuisine and generous portions make it a worthwhile recommendation.

Tips:

Try the seafood salad and fish soup! Be prepared for higher prices. Service could be improved with more attention to detail.

Overall, Khmer Village Restaurant offers authentic Khmer flavors and hearty portions, making it a solid choice for those seeking traditional Cambodian cuisine.

Recommended for:

Foodies seeking authentic Khmer dishes Travelers looking for generous portion sizes Those willing to pay slightly higher prices for...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Khmer Family Restaurant during a tour of Angkor Wat, and it was an exceptional experience. For breakfast, I ordered the fried rice with beef, which was absolutely amazing. As rice is a staple for breakfast in Cambodia, this dish felt both authentic and satisfying. The meal was beautifully complemented by an egg, a broth resembling wonton soup, and a fresh salad. The restaurant boasts breathtaking views of a huge lake, adding a serene backdrop to your dining experience. The outdoor roof-covered setting provides a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal while taking in the natural beauty. Additionally, the first-floor ambiance rivals that of fine dining restaurants in the United States, making it an ideal spot for both casual and more formal dining occasions. The service was friendly and attentive, further enhancing the overall experience. Khmer Family Restaurant is a gem near Angkor Wat, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast before exploring the temples or a relaxing meal with stunning views, this restaurant is a must-visit.
