Newkey's Place — Restaurant in Area A (Wynndel/Crawford Bay/Riondel)

I have been maybe 6 times now over a year hoping I just have bad luck. The food is simply bad its the cheap of the cheap bar food from Sisco and or Gordon's. I had potato skins that were raw on one side and burnt on the other and had basically no toppings how does one even do that. I got sick first visit and again last visit. I have not had a decent meal after about 6 tries so just no longer go. The beer was flat and had a funky taste (dirty lines). The server was ok but had an attitude and chip on their shoulder probably from dealing with all the complaints and local drunks. I was once served by owner and she is said quote "how is food we have the best food" and walked away before I could give input. I was their another time and I think the owner might have been drunk but of course don't have the tools to verify just observation. The tables and floors were dirty every visit (sticky). The corners cracks crannies type things clearly have never been cleaned. There is no hot water in the bathrooms to wash your hands is the kitchen the same? Once the cook had a loud aggressive dog in the breezeway. There are bugs and spiders everywhere. The only people usually in the place during off season are the town drunks. Also they close the grill in the middle of the day so if your timing is off you are out of luck. I would rate the prices high based on the quality of the food. I strongly recommend Creston or Nelson as they have many more...

Come for the food, stay for the racism....or leave like we did. Stopped in for a meal while passing through the area. During our meal, an inebriated local made a racist comment (loudly). A First Nations gentleman asked for clarification - only to be told it was a "joke". When things escalated, the waitress asked the indigenous individual to leave. (Guess you have to keep the locals happy??) Food was good, but we left with a bad taste...

Hanging out on a Saturday. We live here so we have tried a lot on the menu and all have been good. Super friendly staff. Highly recommend Newkeys. The chef ROCKS IT! Virginia is THE BOMB! You gotta know how challenging it is to run a place with 2 staff, but we are population 329. So this is what we can afford in our town. So please treat them with love anD Respect. .5 STARS VAL...
