I can not believe the horrible service that I received today along with my friend especially after thinking Gabriola was full of happy and delightful people. First off, we came and the restaurant hadn't opened yet, they were opening in 5 mins, which was all good. Then the staff opened up and the hostess asked if we wanted to be seated and we asked for takeout. This staff member was very nice. Second, I'm not sure if she was a supervisor or just another server, when telling us the restaurant wasn't open yet was very rude about it. The host told us to go inside to place our take out order and when we walked in, that same rude supervisor or server asked very rudely, "WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?" As if we weren't allowed into the restaurant? We explained we were told to. She ended up taking our order, I specifically asked for no aioli on my burger as it doesn't sit well in my stomach.
We were the first people to place our order. Almost about 40 mins go by and we still hadn't received our dessert that we ordered first, but other guests about 8 other tables all got their MEALS already served to them. Mind you, we needed to catch a ferry.
After asking the a female buser who was so scared of human interaction and said she couldn't help us with our order, we finally got the very nice server /host to help and check on our order.
Then we waited and waited missed our boat. Then after asking a new server that came in late where our food was..it hadn't even been made yet. So we finally got our burgers booted it to the ferry only to realize they put aioli on my burger and gave the wrong order to my friend. So, I threw out the bun and tried to eat what was left of the burger. If we weren't in a hurry to get home, I would have demanded a refund and still believe that should be granted. The only reason we came to the island was to try the "amazing burger" you served as it was a birthday meal for my friend who loves burgers. This was the worst way to celebrate. I am absolutely disgusted by the behavior of your staff.
DO NOT DINE HERE. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE. HOW DO YOU HIRE SUCH AWFUL STAFF is beyond me.

After being seated, there was a noticeable delay of 15 minutes before our orders were taken and drinks served, which felt rather slow. On the positive side, the appetizers were impressive; the crab cakes were exceptional, and the prawns were notably fresh. The seafood linguine, however, was quite basic, though the rib was well-prepared. Unfortunately, the flatbread, which was otherwise decent, had a hair baked into it. When we brought this to our server's attention, his response was a dismissive sign, with no apology or offer of compensation. Overall, while the food had its highlights, the service fell short of expectations.
**edit There are a few additional points to consider. First, we were not informed about the staff shortage, which might have contributed to the slow service. Secondly, after mentioning the hair in the flatbread, we were only given the bill with no offer of dessert or compensation. (This make me even more upset, since there was no offering, yet you said they did?) When I addressed the issue with the owner (since the server was very unprofessional with his sighing) she did offer to remake the dish, but this was only after we had already finished our meal, paid, and were on our way to catch the ferry. Read moreWe have had great takeaway pizza from here in the past. Service is also wonderful. This weekend, though, we called one hour before arrival and made a reservation for 7pm, the time suggested by the restaurant. We arrived 5 minutes early for our reservation and were asked to wait on the grassy area while they "wiped down our table."
We waited a lengthy time and felt like we'd been forgotten or mixed up because it doesnt take long tp wipe down a table. Upon a few more questions, I was told a couple different reasons why we were waiting. In the end though, the front staff admitted to being confused and had mixed up our indoor table with an outdoor reservation. They were now trying to get us inside but had to wait in order to allow servers to tend to a new party of 11.
Once we were seated, we had really lovely service but our meals were sort of ho-hum. Seems that staffing shortages could be affecting organization and quality right now. We understand this, as it's a common issue these days. It's just important to be upfront and honest with customers as we will be more empathetic if the explanations...
