Barrie has only really had Mmm Donuts when you wanted a donut but they are vegan and a great donut needs at least a little animal byproduct. The Vibe sells classic donuts but they are usual sad and rarely anything to rave about.

Maverick’s Donuts had their soft opening so we decided to give them a try. We purchased 6 which were all individually priced. The vanilla sprinkle, chocolate coconut, honey glazed, chocolate glazed, cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar were our picks. They were all fresh and had an excellent classic crumb texture. My favourites were the honey glazed and vanilla sprinkle which had a nice crust to the outside of the donut. The chocolate donuts are where they lost me though. They did not taste like chocolate and had an odd aftertaste.

The packaging is nice and sturdy to hold the doughnuts and the staff are pleasant to deal with.

I find the location problematic but I’m sure all the people living in that part of Barrie are happy they have this spot close by.

I will certainly be back to try a fritter and stuff another honey glazed into my mouth. I wonder if I could get a custom honey glazed with coconut all over it?

When paying for your order there’s a tip option which seems odd since you’re just picking up donuts or a coffee but it does seem like everyone has their hand out these days.
