Roadside Willies Smokehouse & Bar — Restaurant in Bible Hill

My friend and I went here for lunch today. Starting with the service, the waitress was very friendly, from the moment we walked in the door and she seated us, she was engaging with a smile. We arrived at 1145am, and there were a couple of people there. Within 15 minutes of arriving, the place was over half full. I was thinking this is a good sign! The service was prompt and courteous. The restaurant was clean and well kept. We both had fish and chips. I have never had a piece of deep fried fish as good as this. It was not greasy at all, it was tender and flaky, but not dry. The batter was crispy and flaky. I am a french fry snob, boy was I impressed with these fries, crispy and golden on the outside, creamy and so tasty on the inside. Surprising! We stopped in because we heard about it and wanted some pub style food. When we got there it was pretty empty but it was also before the dinner rush. Usually empty is a bad sign.

Between all of us, we ordered the Donair Burger, Fried chicken burger, smoked meat sandwich, and the fish and chips.

Everything tasted great but the Donair Burger was way better than expected and I was jealous I didn't order that one. I was hesitant because the sweetness of a Donair in burger form seemed like it would be something that most likely wouldn't work. However, it does work, and it works really well. That was one of the best burgers I've tasted in quite a while.

Roadside Willie's looks like it hasn’t been updated since 1985, and based on the food, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ingredients have been sitting around just as long. Calling this place a restaurant is generous—it’s more like a crime scene for culinary standards.

$22 for a burger and fries? At that price, I expected something remotely edible, not whatever roadside scraps they’re passing off as food. Maybe that’s why it’s called Roadside Willie's—because that’s where they find their ingredients.
