We had an excellent dining experience here for my partners birthday. It's in a refurbished house that still contains some of the original elements inside. Miranda out waitress did a good job. WARNING - the portions are big here so might take your time deciding on another course. EVERYTHING is cooked to order so be prepared to relax and not just eat and run. The restaurant has a nice outside area in the front that unfortunately all the tables were taken - so we sat inside downstairs. Staff was pleasant and welcoming and the the restaurant clean, tidy and tables well spaced. The upstairs is an open air loft with views down below. We started with a couple glasses of wine and they provide a small bread basket with whipped butter. My partner ordered the French Onion soup (her favorite) and I the Chili. We both thought the French Onion could have been caramelized a bit more and seemed to lack that sweet flavor we've come to expect. The Chili had a nice spicy flavor to it and I finished it. We had quite a wait for the mains as they prepare everything to order. My partner had the Lasagna and I the pan fried Cod. Both came out in hot cast iron skillets. The Lasagna portion was huge and the flavor good. The Cod was cooked perfectly and the accompanying root vegetables extremely good. They also have a nice display case of deserts and coffee bar that we did not try. We really liked this restaurant and would return again

Had supper last night at Quintal Cafe and Bistro in Bonivista. The food atmosphere and service was excellent. I had the Lasagna which is a very very generous portion served very hot in a cast iron Skillet. My wife had the Peanut Chicken which was also delicious. We visited the Restaurant with friends and on their advice about portion sizes did not have an appetizer... when I return I will definitely include one. There was a wide selection of desert options Blueberry Cake, Chocolate Cake, Lemon Meringue Pie, Partridge Berry Tart, Chocolate cheesecake, Pineapple Cheesecake and thats just what I remember. All the deserts are made fresh daily on site. I had lemon meringue pie and my wife had Partridge Berry Tart both of which were exceptional. So good in fact we had a piece of each to take with us for later in the evening. The restaurant is small with limited seating inside but also a nice deck area. It was 27 degrees Celius so we ate inside out of the sun. Service staff were extremely friendly and have created a very informal dining atmosphere which we enjoyed. Prices were very reasonable with meal deserts and drinks for 2 coming to $98.00 before tip. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Bonivista ... they have Breafast, Lunch and Dinner Menus.

What's up at the Quintal Cafe and Bistro? We had a wonderful dining experience in September 2024 but we were disappointed when returning to share the experience with family this past Tuesday evening. We arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation and we were escorted upstairs. We were advised by the hostess that the chicken dishes were not available and that there were no rotating tap beers. Not the end of the world however, upon placing our drink and food orders we waited 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and another 70 minutes for our main food orders to come out. As we patiently waited for drinks and food, restaurant staff did not come by the table to refresh drinks or provide updates on our food orders. The food was no where near what we had experienced 8 months earlier but the kicker came when we went down stairs to settle up our bill. I was asked if everything was okay with the meal and I respectfully responded that I was disappointed that we didn't enjoy this visit as much as we had our last one. The lady at the cash was dismissive and advised me the only thing that had changed was attitudes. I'm not sure what the meaning of the response was but paid the bill and included a gratuity that certainly didn't reflect the poor service and fair quality of the food recieved. The Quintal Cafe is not an inexpensive night out and restaurant management needs to do better to ensure every visitor enjoys a pleasant...
